Overview of School Flagstaff Academy is a pre-K through grade 8 public charter school located in Longmont, Colorado and is affiliated with the St. Vrain Valley School District. We are a fiscally sound and responsible charter school with a vision for excellence and longevity. In operation since 2005, we have gained a regional reputation for excellence in academic education especially in science, mathematics, arts, and technology. We boast a qualified staff and low turnover of our professional faculty. Our students go on to the highest echelon of public and private high schools in the area. Teacher salaries are competitive and subject to expertise and experience. The Mission of Flagstaff Academy is to develop students who are equipped to be well-rounded, ethical leaders in the world community with a foundation based on science and technology.
Overview of Position Provide counseling services to K-5 students to enhance personal, social, and academic success. Roles include crisis intervention, short-term counseling, group counseling and development, 504 plan coordination and development, consultation with teachers and parents, and participation in our MTSS (formerly RtI) process. Work with current counseling department to develop a comprehensive school counseling program to meet the needs of K-8 school. Collection and reporting of data, as well as professional involvement in district meetings is also expected. Attendance at parent teacher conferences required.
Qualifications / Skills / Education: We seek a talented individual who can work with students and be inspired by our mission – "where science and technology take flight". Specifically, we seek a gifted, enthusiastic person with:
  • Excellent communication skillsStrong skills working with families and community partnersMaster's Degree in School Counseling, or other related discipline including school psychology and school social workPassing score on the PLACE school counselor exam or appropriate license and endorsementsExperience working with 504 plans and students with disabilitiesAbility to maintain high ethical and legal standards in a school settingKnowledge of the ASCA National Model and willingness to develop and implement a comprehensive counseling program with the existing counseling departmentElementary and middle school experience preferredFamiliarity with Infinite Campus and Alpine Achievement preferredExperience with behavior de-escalation, intervention and conflict resolution preferredCDE License requiredCharter school experience preferred
