The Senior Manager, Corporate Communications will be responsible for supporting the company's external communications initiatives by assisting in the development and management of messages and stories that showcase students, families, teachers and schools that participate in online and blended education programs powered by K12, or purchase K12 educational solutions. The successful candidate will be a creative, inspiring writer who is naturally prolific, attentive to detail, highly-organized and works well under pressure. This person must excel within fast-paced matrix-management structures and be accustomed to managing multiple projects simultaneously with shifting priorities. This person should be a mature, hands-on storyteller who can identify compelling human interest story angles, pitch to reporters, and place story ideas strategically in mainstream media outlets, trade media publications and on digital channels. The candidate will play a visible role in promoting K12's vision, culture and brand identity to external audiences.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 1 - 2 Interns. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

AS AN SENIOR MANAGER,CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS, YOU WILL . . .

  • Work with students, families, schools and public relations agencies to identify stories that showcase school, teacher and student excellence. Support the packaging of these stories for distribution through online, print and broadcast media.
  • Write, edit, generate ideas, and develop content on a variety of topics to drive ongoing conversation for K12 and its various business units, school partners and products.
  • Help generate proactive earned media coverage and responses to press inquiries.
  • Partner closely with marketing and advocacy teams to support State -specific initiatives.
  • Monitor media coverage; familiarity with software preferable (Critical Mention, Cision, Google keywords, Meltwater)
  • Analyze and report on the effectiveness of public relations efforts.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of communications strategies and programs that protect and promote K12's reputation as an industry leader and innovator.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8 - 15 years of experience of related experience and
  • 4 Year College Degree in Journalism, English or Communications
  • Excellent writing skills that go beyond simply connecting words. Demonstrated writing ability in a Public Relations, Corporate Communication setting or journalistic background

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hands on knowledge of social media strategies that support a public relations campaign effort. Experience working with public relations agencies, development of corporate and familiarity with special event planning and coordination a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent proofreading abilities to ensure editorial quality control.
  • Excellent time management, analytical, decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; particularly PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and Office 365.
  • Maturity and sophistication when collaborating with executives and teams across business units in different geographical locations
  • Ability to pass required background check

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Management experience
  • Knowledge of the education industry a plus.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Newsroom experience, agency experience and/or executive level speechwriting a plus.
