Mandarin Chinese Early Childhood Teacher- Early Learning
Position Overview
The heart of Whittle School & Studios' philosophy is our belief that all children are naturally curious, born to be great thinkers, and form meaning from interactions with family, peers, teachers, and community. The Early Childhood Teacher will be inspired by the Reggio Emilia model grounded in student autonomy and discovery of the world. The Teacher will demonstrate practices that reflect this approach by encouraging student independence spontaneity, curiosity, and by always asking more questions than giving answers. Respect for our young learners is at the core of the Early Learning program. The Early Childhood Teacher will collaborate with, and be supported by, the Early Childhood Associate Teacher.
The Whittle School & Studios Early Learning program will offer a Chinese immersive curriculum for our youngest students, designed to teach children about Chinese language and culture, using language as a tool for gaining insight into cultural beliefs and practices as well as for communication. The primary emphasis of the program at this age is on the spoken language and its cultural context, with a view to enabling students to actively and comfortably participate in a Chinese cultural environment. Students will have daily exposure to spoken Chinese through activities, stories, rhymes, songs, and games. The arts will be key components of the curriculum at this stage, and students will be encouraged to express themselves creatively through the arts as well as language. The students will be exposed to both Chinese traditional characters and simplified characters. They will engage in fun activities and projects to reinforce their learning and help them develop oral and aural skills that will serve as a foundation for further Chinese studies in third grade and beyond.
