Mandarin Chinese Early Childhood Associate Teacher - Early Learning
Position Overview
The heart of Whittle School & Studios' philosophy is our belief that all children are naturally curious, born to be great thinkers, and form meaning from interactions with family, peers, teachers, and community. The Early Childhood Associate Teacher will be inspired by the Reggio Emilia model grounded in student autonomy and discovery of the world, and possess a working understanding of social constructivism and child development. Assisting the lead classroom teacher, the Early Childhood Associate Teacher will plan, collaborate, and develop a curriculum that supports diverse learning and experiences in relation to children's development and culture.
The Whittle School & Studios Chinese immersive curriculum for our youngest students is designed to teach children about Chinese language and culture, using language as a tool for gaining insight into cultural beliefs and practices as well as for communication. The primary emphasis of the program at this age is on the spoken language and its cultural context, with a view to enabling students to actively and comfortably participate in a Chinese cultural environment. Students will have daily exposure to spoken Chinese through activities, stories, rhymes, songs, and games. The arts will be key components of the curriculum at this stage, and students will be encouraged to express themselves creatively through the arts as well as language. The students will be exposed to both Chinese traditional characters and simplified characters. They will engage in fun activities and projects to reinforce their learning and help them develop oral and aural skills that will serve as a foundation for further Chinese studies in third grade and beyond.
