POSITION: Part-time Program Facilitator
LOCATION: West Hartford Continuing Education, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford
WORK PERIOD: Monday-Thursday 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Monday-Thursday Flexible evening hours up to 3 hours/week
Fridays Half-day trainings & meetings approximately once per month

44 Weeks/Year (18 weeks September – December/ 26 weeks January – June)

COMPENSATION: $38.00 - $40.00 per hour. There are no health benefits for this part-time position.

DESCRIPTION:
West Hartford Adult Education (WHAE) provides free Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), Citizenship and high school diploma preparation classes to adult learners of West Hartford and the surrounding communities. WHAE provides quality educational services to over 300 students per year who desire to develop: English language, literacy, numeracy, and technology skills for further education, job training, and better employment. We also provide instruction in civics to help prepare students to pass the USCIS Citizenship Exam. The Vision of WHAE is to ensure that all students achieve the learning goals they have set upon entry into our program. By improving students' skills in the areas of academics, language, technology, and workforce development, we will increase their opportunities to enter college, to obtain an industry-recognized credential, to expand their career choices, to enjoy a family-sustaining wage, and to become effective citizens of their community.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Assist with local, state and federal grant-funded program planning and provide oversight of program operationsSupervision of curriculum, instruction, assessment and delivery of services in alignment with College and Career Readiness StandardsDesign and implementation of student recruitment and retention strategiesStrengthen and maintain interagency collaboration with partnering providers and community agenciesManage program time, space and resourcesAssist with budget developmentCoordinate professional learning opportunitiesServe as Disabilities Contact Person and Lead GED RegistrarPromote transitions from adult education to postsecondary education and training through career pathwaysMaintain current training and knowledge of local, state and federal mandatesEnsure accountability and provider compliance across all program areas


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess a valid Connecticut teaching credential authorizing instruction to adults in the subject area (#088 or #111; 092 preferred). Demonstrate knowledge, teaching and counseling experience with adult learners of different levels of proficiency.Bilingual proficiency desired.Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; utilize technology, web-based programs and multi-media resources (or exhibit a willingness to learn). Applicants must demonstrate the ability to build a learning community among adult educators and students toward achievement of desired goals and outcomes. It is essential for applicants to be accurate and timely in submitting documentation. The ability to work with teachers, staff, administration, and community stakeholders in a collaborative, productive and supportive manner is an important disposition for this position.
