The School of Education and Professional Studies (SOEPS) at the State University of New York at Potsdam is excited to announce we are accepting on-line applications for the position of Dean.  The SOEPS has been preparing educators for more than 200 years. Today, that legacy of educational excellence continues in our strategic directions for existing and new undergraduate and graduate programs in Business Administration and Public Health and Human Performance. The SOEPS offers a number of Baccalaureate degrees including Elementary Education, Exercise Science, Secondary Education, and additional minors. Masters degrees include M.S. Ed. programs in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology Specialist, Literacy, and Special Education; MST programs in Childhood Education and Secondary Education; and M.S. programs in Community Health and Management. Additional post-graduate certificate programs include Special Education and College Teaching. The Education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and are currently seeking accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation. The Community Health program is seeking accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health. Our ideal candidate will have a record of extensive academic achievement and effective administrative leadership, including building community across and within programs, departments and schools.  The Dean will report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and will supervise the SOEPS faculty members, professional and administrative staff, the Associate Dean, Rebecca V. Sheard Literacy Center, and the Center for School Partnerships and Teacher Certification.  The Dean serves as a primary liaison with the School of Arts and Sciences and The Crane School of Music; serves on the Provost’s Cabinet, President’s Council, and other college committees; and works with a wide array of external constituents including the School’s alumni, PK-12 schools, BOCES, community agencies and businesses, and other collegiate programs.  An earned doctorate in one of the School’s academic disciplines (Business Administration, Community Health or Education) or closely related field is required.  A record of experience administering post-secondary academic programs; successful experience in post-secondary teaching; proven record of teaching, service, and scholarly activity appropriate to rank of Professor; experience with external accreditation; successful experience managing a complex budget; successful experience supervising staff and academic faculty; demonstrated excellence in communication and conflict resolution; commitment to shared governance within a university setting; and experience with and commitment to diversity and inclusion are also required qualifications.  To review specific duties, preferred qualifications, and/or to apply, please visit, job posting No. U-00296.  Anticipated start date is summer 2019.  Position is open until filled.
