    TITLE: SENIOR SUPPORT SPECIALIST (School or Year Round)
    SALARY RANGE: $19.57 hourly

    Examples of work performed : This is an office support position. This position is assigned the more difficult clerical and data entry duties in the support of assigned department/school; to type, word process, file and distribute a variety of documents; to provide parents and the public information on students, school activities, policies and operation; to answer telephone/greet visitors and respond to requests for information, routing inquiries and complaints to a proper staff person, when appropriate; to provide general support and assistance to assigned supervisor and to other department/school staff; to plan and coordinate work of assigned work unit; to utilize a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Basic mathematical principles.

  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • Typing and word processing techniques.

  • Department/school procedures, policies and rules.

  • Standard office procedures, methods and equipment, including a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.

    ABILITY TO:

  • Work independently in absence of supervision.

  • Operate and use standard office equipment, including use of a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Plan and organize work, estimate time requirements and set priorities.

  • Perform routine mathematical calculations.

  • Type/word process at a speed necessary for successful job performance.

  • Prepare, edit and proofread a variety of documents and correspondence.

  • Interpret and explain school policies, procedures and rules.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Retain composure under stressful situations.

  • Adapt to a wide variety of duties and changing job demands.

  • Maintain confidentiality of restricted information.

  • Work occasional overtime or other than normal shift to meet work schedules.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Three (3) years of responsible clerical work experience. Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and successful completion of a training program in the use of PC modules in word processing and data base; Experience dealing with young children is desirable.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    Must have a valid Ohio Driver License. This is a sensitive classification; therefore applicants for appointments must pass a security clearance, which includes a check of employment references and criminal records.

    OPEN-TO-THE-PUBLIC EXAMINATION: GENERAL INFORMATION

    1. FILING APPLICATIONS: Must be submitted through cps-k12.org; choose Employment; Choose Postings by Category, choose Clerical and Office Personnel. Applications must be received no later than stated deadline.

    2. QUALIFICATIONS: Unless otherwise stated, work experience requirements must be met by paid experience, all all qualifications must be met by the application deadline date.

    3. CITIZENSHIP: Application accepted from both citizens and non-citizens; however, due to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, only citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. will be hired.

    4. AGE REQUIREMENT: Must be at least 18 years old by the application deadline date.

    5. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR QUALIFIED DISABLED: Such persons may arrange with the test analyst, no later than the application deadline, for an alternate test date, time or location, or necessary assistance in taking the exam, providing the security or integrity of the exam is not jeopardized nor an undue hardship (e.g., substantial additional cost or time) imposed.

    6. EDUCATION TRANSCRIPTS: To meet education requirements, official or student copy of transcripts or grade sheets must be submitted no later than the exam test date.

    7. VETERAN'S CREDIT: To qualify the following requirements must be met EACH TIME an application is filed for an exam; have an honorable discharge or transfer to the reserves with evidence of satisfactory service, OR have been a Red Cross nurse; have served on active duty; and have shown an official document verifying such service (e.g., DD-214), no later than the exam date; and have passed the civil service exam.

    8. PASSING SCORE: The passing score will be determined after the examination by the exam analyst, based on the job analysis, exam result analysis, consultation with subject matter expert, and/or other professional methods.

    9. SECURITY CLEARANCE: APPLICANTS FOR APPOINTMENT MUST SUCCESSFULLY PASS A SECURITY INVESTIGATION WHICH INCLUDES A CHECK OF EMPLOYMENT REFERENCES AND CRIMINAL RECORDS.
