TITLE: Assistant Principal-W.T. Chipman Middle School

QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet the certification requirements of the State of Delaware Department of Education for Pincipal/Assitant Principal.

REPORTS TO: School Principal

SUPERVISES: Staff members designated by the School Principal

START DATE: Mutually Agreeable

JOB GOAL: Under direction of the principal, assists with administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community. Functions include establishing a climate conducive to learning, planning, and coordinating programs, affecting change, and decision making.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of Lake Forest School District policies and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal regulations and laws. Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services. Ability to motivate, encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance as well as good morale. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent human relations skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Masters degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, elementary and/or secondary school curriculum, or a closely related field.
  2. Five years of successful teaching experience.
  3. School- based teacher leadership experience or experience as an assistant school administrator preferred; experiences also may include two years as a central services administrator/central services instructional specialist.
  4. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works with the principal to analyze, share, and use school and student achievement data to develop and implement the school improvement plan.
  2. Works with the principal to implement systematic procedures to assess program effectiveness.
  3. Works with the principal to analyze, share, and use school and student achievement data to develop and implement the school improvement plan.
  4. Shares responsibility for establishing and maintaining a welcoming environment that demonstrates respect for the students and families served by the school.
  5. Solicits input from diverse stakeholder groups in a variety of ways (e.g., surveys, e-mails, phone calls, meetings, focus groups, discussions, advisory groups, etc.) to identify and solve problems and ensures input is analyzed and implemented for continuous improvement.
  6. Responds equitably to all school and family community requests and works with staff and stakeholders to organize and celebrate differences in cultures through program materials and activities for students and families.
  7. Assumes responsibility for specific areas of administration and management assigned by the principal; uses administrative and management practices to promote the efficient and effective operation of the school.
  8. Works with principal to establish and maintain relationships with the PTA and other community organizations to ensure ongoing, two-way communication and initiate activities which foster productive parent and community involvement.
  9. Handles behavior problems promptly and positively.
  10. Works with the principal, teachers, parents, the School Leadership Team, and various student support teams to ensure appropriate programming for all students.
  11. Assumes specific responsibilities assigned by the principal in the selection, orientation, assignment, supervision, and evaluation of staff.
  12. Assists with planning and implementation of professional learning communities
  13. Prepares a variety of written reports and correspondence.
  14. Assumes responsibility for operation of the school in the absence of the principal.
  15. Performs related work as required.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Attendance at evening and weekend student activities, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, and other functions, as required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and contract length to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation and Department of Education guidelines.
