POSITION :
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS :
Candidates must be New York State or Buffalo certified in a NYS approved tenure area and have at least three years of full-time teaching experience. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. They must be able to work cooperatively with individuals and groups in problem solving, develop a strong collegial and collaborative relationship with other teachers and administrators in the building, have a strong sense of responsibility for the academic and developmental welfare of students, and be able and willing to create an environment that stimulates learning and the personal development of children. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of instructional technology, experience serving in a leadership capacity, professional development in, and understanding of, Native American and Multilingual learners. Teaching experience with Native American and/or Multilingual learners is highly desirable.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the Native American language and culture and/or Multilingual learners; Thorough knowledge of the purposes of the program; Good knowledge of research and evaluation methods; Ability to develop curriculum; Ability to monitor programs and make recommendations; Ability to recruit, train and supervise personnel; Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships; Good judgment; initiative; resourcefulness; tact

EXPERIENCE :
In evaluating each candidate's qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate's coursework and experiences in the areas of scientifically based research, differentiation, data-driven instruction, district-based data systems, assessment, and professional development in the area of data, instruction, and curriculum design

DUTIES :
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Coordinates and implements the Indian Education Title VI Project with the Buffalo Public School District;
Oversee the Title VI Grant including but not limited to:
-Infusing Native American culture into all buildings through resources & materials
-Organize the required Public Hearing

-Facilitate the required Native American Parent/Student Committee including but not limited to creating the agenda, speakers, sharing out district events, etc.
-Meet with budget to review Title VII funding for appropriate allocation and expenditures
-Track expenditures related to Title VI

-Search out other funding opportunities

-Facilitate the work of the Cultural Resource Specialists and Native American Resource Program (NARP) staff

-Plan, organize and implement district wide events that showcase Native American Culture

-Participate and facilitate events that spread awareness to the community that there is a Native American

Magnet School and Native American Resource Program

-Develop a strategic calendar/plan to provide supports in all schools on a rotating basis

-Use data to determine the needs of Native Americans

-Develop post-secondary plans for natives in collaboration with area colleges & secondary schools

-Develop extra-curricular events including supporting the Extended Learning Time (ELT) program/My Brother's Keeper (MBK) Grant

-Serve as BPS liaison at the Native American Community Services of Erie & Niagara Counties, Inc. and other CBOs focused on Native American students

-Serve as Multilingual liaison at Culturally & Linguistically Responsive Teaching meetings

-Develop resource guides for school educators on how to effectively work and support Native American students

-Support the development and oversee the Contract for Excellence Grant for MLLs
-Support Multilingual Education Advisory Council (MEAC) in spending their fund lines in C4E

-Gather and use data to inform decision making for Native American Grant, C4E, and MEAC

-Develop requisitions via Munis for O & M, Title I, Title VII C4E grants and follow up on purchases

-Complete payroll for Title I funded activities (ELT/Jumpstart)

-Run reports for CR Part 154 Reporting on the services of MLLs

-Complete the NYSESLAT monitoring report

-Work with HR to fill ENL and Bilingual, Native American Cultural Resource Specialist vacancies

-Working with Central Registration to ensure the completion of a 506 Form by Native American families when a child is being registered

-Assist in locating Native American students within BPS who do not have a completed 506 Form

-Working with the Cultural Resource Specialists to determine the accuracy and counts of completed 506 forms in order to maintain accurate funding.

-Attend professional learning opportunities related to Native American Culture

-Provide all stakeholders with professional learning opportunities related to Native American Culture

APPOINTMENT :
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews, a modeled lesson and a writing sample shall be scheduled.
