SUMMARY

Organize and implement a Physical Education program that encourages the development of lifelong healthy habits for all children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Plan and implement lesson plans that call for students to have moderate to vigorous physical activity during designated class time
  • Assess each student's level of physical abilities and provide activities to increase fitness level
  • Instruct and supervise participants in IPS wellness curriculum pacing activities using the movement forms categories (7-12) and/or grade level outcomes (k-6)
  • Lead demonstration of proper skills for activities
  • Encourage and demonstrate safety in all classroom activities
  • Collect Fitnessgram data to be reported to parents and Wellness Supervisor
  • Analyze Fitnessgram data to incorporate programming to promote wellness in the school
  • Encourage and demonstrate safety in all classroom activities
  • Lead school activities to enhance wellness of the school community and parents
  • Develop and maintain effective internal and external oral and written communications with students, parents, school based staff, and district staff
  • Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school
  • Keeps attendance records
  • Maintains discipline in classroom and on school grounds
  • Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor's degree. Successful candidate should have experience with youth program implementation and evaluation. Knowledge of educational programs and strategies in physical education and health. Must have successful experience working in a diverse population of students and staff.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Indiana Teacher License in K-12 Physical Education. Additional licensing in Health preferred
