Assessment System Implementation Manager

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school, college, and made career-ready. The Assessment System Implementation Manager for the Universal Curriculum System (UCS) will coordinate the varied, complex projects and activities that comprise the implementation of the enterprise assessment system as part of the Universal Curriculum System.

The Assessment System Implementation Manager will report to CPS' Director of Student Assessment.

The UCS is a formal structure designed to support the effective and efficient identification, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of the district's curricular options. The implementation effort for the UCS has been organized as a portfolio of projects, organized across four primary categories:

  1. Curriculum

  2. Assessment

  3. Instruction

  4. Infrastructure



The Assessment System Implementation Manager will provide project management expertise to the onboarding, implementation, and training of the enterprise assessment system. This includes ongoing training, customer engagement, vendor management, and data analysis once the system goes live. The Assessment System Implementation Manager will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Vendor management in the integration and implementation of the assessment system

  • Managing operational activities, ensuring current, accurate and quality project information using proven project management methodologies and techniques

  • Defining project scopes, initiating and managing assessment system projects, including integration with other software platforms, such as the district's student information system and learning object repository, based on project priorities and user needs

  • Creating and executing project work plans and revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements

  • Producing project reports, communications, presentations, and performance metrics for multiple audiences and levels within the organization

  • Communicating with the Director of Student Assessment, Universal Curriculum System Portfolio Manager, and ITS Project Manager, district leadership, and other key stakeholders regarding the status of specific projects

  • Acting as a liaison between departments, coordinating outcomes-driven discussions with subject matter experts and project team members

  • Managing scope, time, and budget; reporting status; capturing and prioritizing changes in scope, and coordinating work tasks through all stages of the project life cycle

  • Managing stakeholders and stakeholder expectations, including vendors, CPS departments, school staff, and students

  • Providing excellent service to partners, both internal and external to CPS Central Office

  • Effectively managing vendor relationships in accordance to CPS strategies and directives.

  • Effectively communicate about and drive implementation efforts for the integration of related software platforms

  • Performs related duties as required



In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Assessment System Implementation Manager must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • CAPM or PMP Certification preferred



Type of Experience and Number of Years :

  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management

    • Minimum of 4 years

  • Experience in Information Technology

    • Minimum of 2 years

  • Experience in Education (K-12) project or program work preferred



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Proficient in Project Management practices, principles, and tools

  • Knowledgeable about organization and process structures

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to apply process standards

  • Self-motivated/willingness to take initiative

  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships within own team and with other stakeholders

  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, project and functional management to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions

  • Ability to work as a Project Manager on multiple simultaneous projects

  • Ability to work in a face-paced environment where scale, scope, and system performance are major factors in decision-making

  • Ability to work independently towards established goals

  • Eagerness to learn



Additional Notes :

  • CPS employees are required to be actual residence of the City of Chicago within six months of beginning employment, and are required to maintain Chicago residency throughout employment.
