PURPOSE OF JOB:
Assist the building administrator in the development, implementation, and monitoring of an evidence-based comprehensive discipline/behavioral support program for students in grades K-6. The Dean will be directly responsible to interpret and understand the District's Code of Student Conduct and disciplinary protocols, and assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the unique needs of Knotts scholars. The Dean will provide the school principal with student support in a Trauma Informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Administrative Services
Understands and assures compliance with the policies and procedures of the Board of Education, federal, state and local laws, regulations and mandates.
Works in collaboration with the Office of Discipline and the Department of Student Support.
Communicates District goals, objectives, policies and procedures to staff members, students, parents and the community and others involved.
Assist the building administrator to develop and implement school goals in a strengths-based manner, as aligned with KCPS Strategic Plan.
Develops and implements a building-wide Trauma Informed in-service and coaching plan that is focused on behavior intervention, de-escalation strategies, brain breaks, and other types support systems to promote resilience and student success.
Attends and participates in building, area, community, and District meetings, when appropriate.
Participates and is involved in community type advocate groups related to Trauma Sensitive School philosophy.
Provides leadership in developing a positive school climate and harmonious multicultural, multiethnic educational environment.
Through scheduled classroom observations, assists principal in making regular systematic and accurate appraisals of teachers' instructional practices as it relates to Trauma Informed Care and Trauma Sensitive practices by monitoring and assessing teachers' professional performance.
Advises and assists teachers with classroom management and resolution of interpersonal relations conflicts between students/student and teacher/student.
Works with building Principal to establish a safe and secure learning and teaching environment that promotes resilience and a growth mindset.
Demonstrates professional growth.
Educational Services
Leads the development and implementation of programs designed to promote resilience, effective instruction and promote academic excellence for all students.
Monitors and evaluates all student support and behavioral systems.
Provides a variety of opportunities for student and staff recognition to promote relationship building and a positive school culture of inclusion.
Assists in the development, coordination and implementation of a comprehensive student success plan for responsive and efficient delivery of student services tailored to the adjustment and discipline needs of the students.
Provides leadership in designing building level programs and activities to alleviate problems of student attendance.
Develops and implements yearly performance objectives designed to improve student attendance, discipline, school climate, and student success and dropout rate.
Develops and implements new and innovative ideas for improving the delivery of student education and support programs.
Assists the principal and staff in developing and implementing a school improvement plan, and sound trauma-informed practices / philosophies and practices.
Works with principal in assisting teachers to develop evaluation procedures designed to evaluate student progress in relation to instruction objectives.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Establishes and maintains productive, collaborative relationships with staff, students, caregivers, and community partners.
Relates to students and caregivers will mutual respect while carrying out positive and effective disciplinary and support programs that promotes resilience.
Have the ability to problem-solve in a solution-focused manner.
Promotes an environment that fosters safety and trust where staff, students, and caregivers from diverse backgrounds experience success.
Uses effective interpersonal skills that include patience, respect, and having a strengths-based perspective.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes (when administrator is out)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree.
A minimum of three (3) years of educational leadership in an urban setting.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in an Alternative School setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education Leadership or a related field.
Hold or be eligible for Missouri Certification in secondary school teaching.
