Position — Deputy Superintendent for Greenville County Schools

Location — Administration – District Office

Application Deadline — Until Filled

Effective Reporting Date — No later than April 1, 2019

Salary Range — Administrative/Supervisory Salary Schedule, Group AA    ($153,705 - $215,151)

Length of Service —12 months

Required Skills:

(1) Ability to act with integrity and consistency in dealings with others, (2) Ability to analyze complex problems, develop and implement solutions, (3) Ability to effectively communicate to internal and external audiences comprised of individuals from a wide cross section of backgrounds and greatly varied levels of understanding, (4) Ability to relate well to others and work as a member of a leadership team, (5) Ability to represent the district and articulate its mission and accomplishments to a wide variety of audiences, (6) Ability to delegate responsibility effectively and in a manner that recognizes the autonomy of senior staff while ensuring accountability.

Major Responsibilities:

(1) Direct the day to day operations of the district, directly supervising the Associate Superintendent of Academics, the Assistant Superintendents for School Leadership, and the Executive Directors of the Operational Departments, (2) Ensure implementation of the applicable goals of the district’s Strategic Education Plan, (3) Serve as the districts’ Chief of Staff coordinating the Executive Staff and District Leadership team, (4) Serve as acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent, (5) Coordinate the District’s Emergency Response Team, (6) Recommend policies and rules to the Superintendent for the effective administration of the district, (7) Approve recommendations for employment and initial salary of all administrative non-teaching personnel and submit to the Superintendent for final administrative approval, (8) Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and board committees and serve as the chief staff member for the administration section of the Committee of the Whole, (9) Develop agendas for Executive Staff and Principal meetings, (10) Serve as Superintendent’s designee to hear appeals of hearing officer decisions for employee and student grievances, (11) Serve as a member of the team to draft the annual district operating and capital budgets, (12) Keep the Superintendent properly informed regarding developments essential to the effective management of the school system, (13) Authorize school improvement and equipment fund expenditures, (14) perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Preferred:  (1) Doctorate in Educational Administration-Ed.D. or Ph.D. is preferred, (2) Experience in a large school district administrative structure, (3) Principal supervision experience. 

Required:  (1) Successful experience as a district level leader to include direct experience in the areas of operations and academics, (2) Successful experience as a school principal, (3) Certification or eligible for certification as a Superintendent in South Carolina, (4) Must reside within 20 miles drive to the District Office in normal traffic conditions, (5) As chief operating officer, be available to respond quickly to any issues as necessary outside normal work hours/days.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Start date determined by availability of the candidate but no later than April 1, 2019

Twelve months (245 days)

Salary:  District-Wide Administrative/Supervisory/Exempt Salary Schedule; Group AA, ($153,705 - $215,151)
