Summary & Overview of Empowerment Academies

SEZP's mission to dramatically improve educational opportunity for Springfield students is marked by our Empowerment Academies programming. Empowerment Academies are an initiative to provide targeted, small-group academic support in math & ela for students during February break.

In Empowerment Academies, a select number of students across SEZP will work in small groups of 10 - 12 students led by Massachusetts' best educators. The small group size and high-quality instruction will allow students to receive academic support tailored to their specific needs. It will also enable teachers to more effectively build strong relationships with students and accelerate student growth. Students will be selected based on academic need, attendance, and conduct.

Academy Recruitment Leader Overview

Empowerment Academies need strong school leaders to set-up, operate and run the week-long program. Academy Leaders for Empowerment Academies not only have the drive to fill Empowerment Academy seats, they also have the instructional and operational leadership to ensure that students receive high quality support throughout the week. This role requires deep investment in the aims of the Empowerment Academy program and a combination of operational and team building experience to set up and launch successful academies. As an Academy Leader, you will be responsible for running an academy that improves student results, creates a positive learning environment for students and cultivates a setting where teachers can thrive.

Academy Recruitment Leader Responsibilities

With support and general guidance from SEZP, Academy Recruitment Leaders are expected to:

Support Recruitment and Retention

Ensure 95% attendance rate each day of Empowerment Academies

Engage Families

Implement plan to educate & inform parents/guardians about the Empowerment Academy

Distribute & collect permission slips for student participation

Coordinate Operations & Logistics

Support creation of student rosters for the week

Manage student attendance tracking

Manage raffle and gift card distribution effectively

Manage all other tasks necessary for operational excellence

Academy Recruitment Leader Requirements

Must work in the school that will host the Empowerment Academy

Must have demonstrated experience in operations & logistics

Must have demonstrated techniques for building relationships with students & families

Must believe in each student's ability to achieve at high academic levels

Must demonstrate ability to work in a complex environment

Academy Recruitment Leader Stipend: $2,500
