JOB TITLE:
BILINGUAL INTERPRETER POOL

SUMMARY:
Provides individual and small group interpretation language support for ELL qualified students and non-English speaking families in their native language. The Bilingual Interpreter serves as a language bridge between the school and students' family. He/she provides interpretation services for non-English speaking families and English speaking school staff.

CONTEXT AND MISSION:
Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Boulevard Park and White Center Heights in Washington State. Starting in the fall of 2012, the Highline community came together to develop a four-year strategic plan outlining the community's bold goals and big dreams for its children. The plan's promise is that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for college, career, and citizenship. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Provide individual or small group verbal language support (interpretation) for students, families and staff. - Assists students, families and teachers to communicate academic achievement. - Works with district staff to communicate student progress and needs. - Performs a wide variety of interpretation (verbal) services - Provides interpretation at student-parent-teacher conferences, IEP conferences, and community meetings. - Serves as a language bridge between the school and the student's family or the community. - Coordinates appointment scheduling between school and parents in parent's native language. Other Functions - Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bilingual in English and at least one other language. Previous experience providing one on one or small group verbal language support (interpretation).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
:
Preference for bilingual in English and any of the following languages (Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Cambodian, Cantonese, Lao, Romanian, Mandarin, Bengali, Tagalog, Tongan, Tarasco, Haitian Creole, Korean). Other languages not listed, please also apply for the pool. TESTING REQUIREMENT: Score of "Intermediate-High" or higher on the Oral Proficiency Interview in the target language, based on the ACTFL standards

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
