JOB INFORMATION:
  • Classified Registered Nurse Substitute
  • HOURS PER DAY: Minimum 3 hours per day, up to 7 hours per day
  • This position is an on-call position, and does not provide medical or other benefits.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Provide nursing care as assigned by a school nurse to meet the needs of individual students. The Classified Registered Nurse works as a member of the building and District health services team to coordinate and carry out health care services to the building and individual students as necessary, within the scope and standards of nursing practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Substitute as needed for Classified Registered Nurse
  2. Assist the Certificated School Nurse in implementing individual health care plans for students with health care needs.
  3. Perform professional nursing tasks as needed, including emergency services and supportive care.
  4. Provide first aid and emergency care to student(s) for the purpose of supporting safety of all students, cares for ill students, and act within the scope and standards of nursing practice.
  5. Supervise designated school staff in the administration of oral medication to students.
  6. Supervise school staff in the performance of delegated nursing tasks.
  7. Maintains documentation (e.g. student health history, immunization requirements, current health status, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  8. Perform other nursing duties as assigned by a Certificated School Nurse.
  9. Assist with tasks involved in vision and hearing screening.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
  2. Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  3. Experience working with children and the community.
  4. Experience supervising non-licensed persons.
  5. Current CPR and first aid certificate.
  6. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
  7. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  8. Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
  9. Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral form.
