The Boston Arts Academy is a public high school for the visual and performing arts. Founded in 1998, it is a joint project of the Professional Arts Consortium, Inc., (comprising the Berklee College of Music, Boston Architectural College, the Boston Conservatory, Emerson College, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the New England Conservatory) and the Boston Public Schools. The Boston Arts Academy is charged with being a laboratory and a beacon for artistic and academic innovation. The Boston Arts Academy prepares a diverse community of aspiring artist-scholars to be successful in their college or professional careers and to be engaged members of a democratic society. BAA is proud to be the first full inclusion high school in the city of Boston.

Position Description
This position will report to the Artistic Dean and Headmaster. This is a full-time position and depending on program, schedule and calendar, position schedule may vary at different times during the year. Some occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities:
The Admissions Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the following programs:

  • Recruit promising new students from the greater Boston community
  • Develop and distribute promotional and marketing materials
  • Coordinate student auditions and callbacks
  • Deliver informational presentations and workshops
  • Process student applications on the database
  • Update database throughout the year
  • Communicate about enrollment to the Boston Public Schools Dept
  • Promote BAA through various media sources
  • Introduce Boston Arts Academy to parents, students, school leaders, teachers and community
  • Guide prospective students through the admissions process
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation for auditions for students, families, and teachers
  • Maintain the admissions process with integrity and finalizes acceptances
  • Document the admission process for various sources, including the board
  • Supervise assistant
  • Update the admissions portion of the website
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the Boston Public Schools, teachers, welcome centers and enrollment office

Qualifications
Required:

  1. A commitment to arts education;
  2. Ability to work effectively and comfortably in a team-oriented, fast-paced, high-energy atmosphere;
  3. Strong communication, interpersonal, advocacy and teaming skills;
  4. Bachelor's Degree;
  5. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Preferred:
  1. Fluent in a language other than English
  2. Knowledge of Boston neighborhoods and schools
  3. Database experience

TERMS:
Managerial Tier B

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement as well as U.S. citizenship.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
