Job Description
REPORTS TO: The Special Assistant for Special Education and Classroom Teachers.

JOB MISSION: To facilitate the students' progress toward the goals stated in the individual educational plans under the direction of the Special Education and Classroom Teachers. To provide other instructional and clerical assistance as required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide student(s) with instructional assistance as directed and supervised by the Special Education and Classroom Teachers.

2. Intervene in and remedy those situations where the safety of the student(s) is involved.

3. Work as a supportive assistant to facilitate integration of students with disabilities.

4. Attend to student's academic, physical, behavioral and/or medical issues where appropriate.

5. Establish a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s), without fostering or encouraging intense, emotional involvements.

6. Attend and participate in meetings during the regularly scheduled day with Classroom and Special Education Teachers regarding assigned student(s) as needed.

7. Maintain confidentiality in school, home, and community settings as mandated by Massachusetts Regulations.

8. Perform other duties reasonably related to his/her function, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Environmental conditions are a means of describing the physical surroundings of a worker in a specific job. These positions are performed in a school and/or camp setting where the environmental conditions should have no effect on how the jobs are performed.

Noise: Level 3 - Moderate level of intensity.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year in accordance with current Longmeadow Educators Association (Unit F) and Longmeadow School Committee Agreement.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. College course work, preferred.
2. Demonstrated ability and interest in children and education.
3. Clerical skills desirable.
4. Some psychology background desirable.
5. PreSchool experience with ABA training/Autism experience preferred.
6. Experience with ABA, Behavioral, Social Skills
7. Physical ability to handle the responsibilities associated with these positions. Lifting and/or toileting may be required.
8. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the School Committee or its designee find appropriate and acceptable.
