SUMMARY:
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Perform tasks related to maintaining and improving the Facility grounds.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plant, trim, mow, weed, spray, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow snow, remove ice, spread salt and/or other related functions of a groundskeeper with directions from crew leader.
- Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws, edger and shears.
- Operate light or medium weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies.
- Operate light or medium tractors and attachments used to maintain grounds as needed.
- Assist in snow removal including parking lot plowing when needed.
- Work as directed by the Facilities Manager and/or Facilities Supervisors.
- Remain up-to-date and informed as to current practices of job related functions.
- Work with other people that may be contacted in an agreeable manner.
- Cooperate with other people within the department and other department personnel in completing assigned tasks.
- Display the necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups.
- Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Attend department meetings as required.
- Participate in fire and disaster programs as directed.
- Assist other District Maintenance personnel when needed and/or during slow grounds season.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to all custodial qualifications, the following are required:
- Must pass FFD Assessment - able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment as required.
- Must possess or obtain a valid CDL driver's license and be insurable.
- Must become certified in grounds management, sports turf management, arboriculture and/or pesticide application. (this must be completed within 6 months of hire)
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain effective relations with supervisor and fellow employees.
- Ability to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for job assignments and equipment used.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
- Willing to be trained as required.
- Three years of experience in ground maintenance.
- Computer knowledge and ability, or commitment to gain knowledge and experience to use computerized programs such as email, internet, word processing & spreadsheets.
- Ability to oversee and direct crew to assure completion of each job.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
