SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Plan and implement an interdisciplinary, motivational physical education curriculum

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education—Bachelor's Degree Required. Master's Degree preferred.

Certification—Valid Indiana Teacher's License in Physical Education

Experience—Three years successful teaching preferred.
  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional methodologies.
  • Experience in cooperative learning, student learning styles, collegial teaching/team building, and technology preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of people including community partners, parents, and other teachers to coordinate P.E. curriculum development, instruction, and extra-curricular activities
  • Ability to integrate educational theory and practice
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Understanding of student learning styles and alternative forms of assessment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop positive self-images and leadership skills.
  • Work with teachers to plan interdisciplinary instruction.
  • Encourage and support parental and community involvement in the educational process and P.E. program.
  • Seek and use community resources to enhance the instructional program.
  • Participate in innovative instructional and assessment activities.
  • As part of a demonstration site, accept visitors and observers to the classroom.
  • Assist students in developing life-long habits of exercise that are enjoyable.
  • Participate in all staff and curriculum development workshops and professional groups, sometimes held during the summer and/or outside of the regular instructional day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
