The role of the Director, Equitable Environments in the Office of Equity will be to assist with the implementation of the District's plan to create culturally responsive environments that support teaching & learning by providing equity focused coaching and formal professional learning opportunities aimed at eliminating racial disparities. The Director will work to advance the District's efforts to provide targeted professional development opportunities based on culturally relevant pedagogy and needs assessments of instructional, administrative and support staff.

Salary:
Support Administrator Salary Schedule Level 4 (Starting at $91, 627)

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education or related human services field required; Master's degree preferred.

- 5 or more years of teaching experience.

- Pennsylvania Department of Education-issued Instructional certification required; Administrative certification preferred.

- Minimum of 3 years in an administrative or leadership position preferred.

- Knowledge of research-based strategies for culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive school environments.

- Knowledge of adaptive and systemic approaches to operationalizing racial equity in school systems.

- Training and /or experience in teacher development, school leader development, instructional design, and school improvement efforts.

- Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, teaching methods and strategies; best practices in school improvement, leadership development; adult learning theory and professional development; planning and project management; and, collaboration, coordination, and facilitation of work groups.

- Excellent writing, public speaking, research, interpersonal and intercultural communication, strategic thinking and planning.

- Ability to analyze data and skills to format data into effective programs.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Provide culturally relevant professional development and ongoing support (i.e., consultation and coaching) for teams of teachers, coaches, and district Learning Environment Specialists to grow as leaders for racial equity and support the creation of culturally responsive classroom environments and instruction/elimination of racial disparities.

2. Coordinate and monitor a suite of equity initiatives and programs within the Equity Office and District focused on improving teaching and learning and the classroom environment, such as Courageous Conversations about Race, Culturally Responsive Learning Environments, Implementing Lessons Equitably, and Racial Equity Affiliate Leadership.

3. Assist the Executive Director in coordinating implementation of District initiatives outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding between the District and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

4. Organize cohorts of Racial Equity Affiliates to facilitate the use of the Courageous Conversations About Race Protocol and Guidelines for Equitable Decision Making, advocate on behalf of students, families, communities, and employees of color, and model an equitable mindset in their practice.

5. Facilitate equity walk cycles, consultations, and instructional reviews to support school teams in identifying and removing barriers to African American student success, with special attention to Priority and Focus Schools with 75% or greater African American students.

6. Train and influence decision-makers throughout the District regarding culturally responsive curriculum design and lesson implementation.

7. Conduct equity audits of curriculum, instruction, programming, resources, and school climate.

8. Review, design and modify curricula and other materials to align with Ladson-Billing's framework for culturally relevant pedagogy and consult regularly with curriculum supervisors to identify opportunities for culturally relevant strategies/examples to be embedded into the curriculum.

9. Work closely with the Professional Development department to ensure teacher leaders are leveraged as support to other teachers throughout the district around racial equity and access.

10. Establish and develop strong relationships with education, community, and faith based organizations to maximize professional learning partnerships and PPS staff development.

11. Help to develop successful integration (curriculum, pedagogy delivery, parent engagement, student voice, and critical examination of institutional racism) that leads to educational equity and student achievement.

12. May be responsible for supervision of other employees in the Office of Equity, as determined by the Executive Director.

13. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Job Information:
Physical Demands: This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry, and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. This position requires minimum physical effort and not subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.

4. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
5. Frequent travel; on a daily basis to and from various school sites, offices and departments; non-local travel typically required on monthly basis.
