JOB SUMMARY : The Automotive Service Instructor will be responsible for instruction and supervision of students in the Career and Technology Center's Automotive Service pathway for ½ day. This includes training and preparing students in all aspects for a career in the field of automotive service including ASE certifications, dual credit, soft skills in the workplace and internships.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively. Have four to five years of experience in the industry. The candidate must be ASE certified and knowledgeable of current automotive industry standards. Prefer experience teaching in a high school or technical school setting.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Must be eligible through the Indiana Department of education for a CTE: Trade & Industrial Automotive Services 5-12 license or Workplace Specialist: Automotive Services 9-12 license. Must hold ASE certifications for specialty areas such as; brakes, automatic transmission, electrical/electronic systems, heating & air conditioning, engine repair, and suspension & steering.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES : Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide detailed and regular feedback to students and parents on student achievement, attendance and discipline concerns Maintain student files, training records, and all reports concerning student certifications Plan and deliver pathway curriculum in a highly engaging classroom and automotive shop Maintain and enter all required data for student grades, attendance, and discipline Create and maintain a positive learning environment for students. Organize and serve on Automotive Service Advisory Board Prepare lesson plans and accompanying resources required to meet the objectives of the IDOE pathway standards Maintain and inventory all automotive service tools, equipment and technology Be in good standing with ASE certifications Sponsor or Co-Sponsor an automotive focused student organization Work cooperatively with other CT pathway instructors, specialists, and administrators Follow building and district rules and procedures when performing assigned responsibilities Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationship by practicing good human relations with students, staff, parents, and the community partners Other duties as assigned by the CTC Director

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities for adults, but is expected to carry out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring student behavior and activities both in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day and on learning excursions.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be at a higher decibel when automotive service machines are in use. The instructor will frequently be exposed to dirt, oil, anti-freeze and other service related liquids and contaminants.
