Assistant Director, School Nutrition

Job Details

Works under the direction of the Director of School Nutrition, this position will be primarily responsible for overseeing School Nutrition Program (SNP) field staff and maintaining operations within compliance of federal, state and local guidelines. The SNP administers the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, After School Snack, and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable programs, along with any other Federal programs and outside contracts. This district has 72 operations, approximately 44,500 students, and over 500 School Nutrition employees.
  • Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of program policies and procedures for the SNP;
  • Assists in the coordination of daily operating activities for the SNP;
  • Supervises field staff, to include participating in and overseeing training, directing, counseling, and evaluation of assigned staff, along with proposing hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations;
  • Provides leadership for SN Field Supervisors and cafeteria managers to develop, train, and retain highly competent staff;
  • Provides assistance to the SN Field Supervisors and cafeteria managers to resolve problems;
  • Serves on committees, partners with the community, and coordinates with administrators, principals, parents, students, and SN staff to improve meal programs;
  • Attends training as needed, in-state and out-of-state;
  • Assumes responsibility for the SNP in the absence of the Director of School Nutrition;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;
  • Consults with the Director of School Nutrition in the discharge of these duties.

Additional Job Information

Education/Certification:
? Bachelor?s degree in restaurant management, business administration, food/nutrition, dietetics, or a related field required. Master?s degree preferred.

Experience:
? 5+ years of experience in food service in a school, commercial, or institutional setting required.
? 3+ years of experience at the management or administrative level required.
? 3+ years as a Director or Assistant Director of School Nutrition in a district with at least 30, 000 students preferred.

Skills/Qualifications:
? Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Power Point, with ability to adapt to new technologies.
? Ability to manage and coordinate diverse staff.
? Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
? Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver?s license.

Must submit to Pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
