Mathematics Teacher, Middle School
Position Overview
The Whittle academic model is rooted in deep mastery of foundational skills and content expertise, coupled with support in developing a growth mindset that builds stamina, confidence, and resilience over time. Curating and combining the best curricula from around the world, the Whittle School Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum includes Exeter Math in the Middle School. As a member of an interdisciplinary instructional team that employs project-based, personalized, multi-disciplinary, inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning, the Middle School Mathematics Teacher will facilitate the core mathematics classes, related electives, and interdisciplinary STEM projects that engage students in collaboration. The curriculum, which includes regular work in Maker Spaces/Workshop Floor, is designed to develop real-world numeracy, is supported by Math and Acceleration Bands. The Middle School Mathematics Teacher's passion for mathematics will engage students in mastering an understanding of key concepts that will help them make sense of mathematics as they advance to the Upper School courses. Additionally, this teacher will:
• genuinely enjoy the company of adolescents
• be passionate about developing a relationship and sense of trust with each student, and
• seek to engage with students both in the classroom and the greater Whittle community in a variety of ways outside the classroom

The following are highly desirable qualifications for the listed position:

• Bachelor's degree BA/BS in specific field or post graduate work in Mathematics required
• Master's level degree or above in Mathematics preferred
• Linguistic proficiency in Mandarin Chinese a plus
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment
• Participates in professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and other collaborative communities to design and plan instructions, to improve practice, and to achieve student outcomes
• Drive and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
