Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education

Executive Director

Boston, MA

The Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education (MBAE), a nonprofit education advocacy organization, seeks a dynamic Executive Director based out of its Boston headquarters. This is an exciting opportunity for a sophisticated team player and leader to direct a program of strategic policy advocacy to ensure that every child in Massachusetts receives a high quality education that will put them on the path to successful lives and meaningful employment.

Since its founding in 1988, MBAE has been committed to the belief that it is in the interest of every employer in Massachusetts to promote and advance K-12 education and to close the achievement and opportunity gaps in public education. In 1993, Massachusetts took dramatic steps, based on a blueprint laid out in MBAE's seminal reform proposal, Every Child a Winner (https://www.mbae.org/every-child-a-winner/), to improve the state's K-12 public education system. As a result, student achievement improved and by many measures Massachusetts leads the nation in K-12 public education. However, racial and socio-economic achievement gaps persist. MBAE is committed to closing the chronic achievement gaps in the Massachusetts public education system. Failure to close these gaps would result in jobs continuing to go unfilled while the state's most vulnerable students get left on the economic sidelines.

MBAE is a vibrant organization, with strong finances, an engaged board of directors, and a network of 30 business affiliates collectively representing over 26,000 local employers across the state. After over a decade of strong leadership and organizational growth under retiring Executive Director Linda Noonan, MBAE is poised to begin a new chapter of research, developing evidence-based solutions, and advocating for policies that will create equitable educational opportunities for all students. Through its current programs and initiatives, MBAE is keenly focused on the following goals: (1) ensuring equitable and effective distribution and use of funding for education; (2) increasing school leader autonomy and flexibility; (3) closing the digital equity gap; and (4) expanding opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials in high school.

In its next Executive Director, MBAE seeks a strategic, results-oriented leader and a proactive advocate, who, working in partnership with the organization's Board and staff, will develop a forward-looking strategy for the organization that will ensure impact, financial stability and growth. The Executive Director will galvanize the organization and other educational advocacy and policy leaders in its continued work to strengthen public education for all students across the Commonwealth. The Executive Director will bring passion, innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit to building and guiding a development strategy and an ability to craft a compelling case for support that will inspire the next generation of donors (foundations, companies and individuals) to MBAE. This person should be comfortable operating within complicated political contexts, and recognize the value of strategic partnerships within government, the corporate community and education sector as well as with business advocacy organizations for education in other states.

All inquiries, nominations/referrals, and applications (including resume and letters of interest responding to the position challenges and objectives outlined above) will be held in the strictest confidence and should be submitted via Isaacson, Miller's website:
