The Student Engagement Coordinator is the operational right-hand to the school Headmaster, responsible for all matters of school administration that do not directly relate to instruction. The Student Engagement Coordinator position seeks to relieve the Headmaster of non-instructional obligations so that the Headmaster can focus on student achievement and the professional development of the teaching staff. The Student Engagement Coordinator will investigate situations and serve as a hearing officer to assist the school administration in managing and providing remediation and resolution to matters involving conflict. The Student Engagement Coordinator will also support the school wide goals. The Student Engagement Coordinator reports directly to the school Headmaster and work closely with members of the BPS Central Office Operations Team.

Responsibilities

  • Communication

      1. Works collaboratively with school leaders to ensure effective communication to students, parents, staff, and community
      2. Consults with parents and community agencies to provide early interventions for students
      3. Serves as a liaison to the community regarding behavioral reports
      4. Checks the task ASPEN workflow tab daily and responds on ASPEN by posting comments back to teachers with what has been done within 3 business days
      5. Develop plans and communication for student engagement and discipline for the entire school building

  • Collaboration with Teams

      1. Works collaboratively with guidance counselors and professional support
      2. Meets collaboratively with the Headmaster once per week
      3. Actively serve on the school's operational leadership team
      4. Serves as a liaison to juvenile and adult court system (Department of Children and Families, Department of Youth Services, and other external agencies)
      5. Is visible and available to students, teachers, and staff members

  • Conflict Resolution

      1. Establish, implement and monitor school-wide discipline system including student behavior management systems, classroom management strategies, teacher trainings, student discipline report record keeping and case management
      2. Ensure student discipline records are properly maintained and updated at the school
      3. Assists the school administration in managing and resolving potentially negative situations to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff
      4. Investigate and provides remediation in situations involving conflict
      5. Serves as a hearing office and conflict mediator in school discipline cases
      6. Creates, institutes, and manages the school detention program (before and/or after school)
      7. Monitors and patrols the corridors regularly (before school, during passing time, during class time, and after school) to ensure that students are in class and to help prevent potential disciplinary situations from occurring
      8. Checks uniforms regularly to ensure full adherence to the school uniform policy. Supervises "loaner" program and assigns and supervises detention based on uniform infractions.
      9. Checks in regularly with teachers regarding discipline issues

  • Additional Duties

    1. Provide oversight of the planning and execution of school safety at special events such as, but not limited to assemblies, graduation, dances, proms
    2. Monitors the arrival and dismissal procedures of the school
    3. Performs other related responsibilities as assigned by the Headmaster

Job Qualifications
Required:
  1. Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
  2. Communication and management skills necessary to ensure a smooth school operation
  3. Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency
  4. Ability and desire to work in a fast paced, highly disciplined, but sometimes unpredictable school environment
  5. Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed
  6. Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, and roll-up-my sleeves attitude
  7. Strong belief that all students in BPS can achieve at high levels
  8. City of Boston residency and U.S. citizenship.

Preferred:
  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Good working knowledge of BPS SIS (Student Information System)
  3. 2+ years of work experience in a school setting

School Hours 7:00 AM- 3:00PM

TERMS:
Managerial Tier B

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement as well as U.S. citizenship.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
