BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in storm water management, landscaping, or environmental disciplines. Completion of formal education in stormwater management, landscaping, or environmental disciplines preferred; or any equivalent combination of education/training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Some knowledge of state, local, and federal regulations applicable to stormwater management or environmental disciplines.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of engineering, construction, and landscaping processes.
  • Some knowledge of the practices of confined space entry.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate effectively with school officials, principals, contractors, and local, state, and federal government officials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability in reading, understanding, and revising blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Ability to perform tasks and follow through successful conclusion.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports of work performed.
  • Ability to use a mobile device for communication, work order processing, and documentation.
  • Ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must possess valid motor vehicle operator's license from the jurisdiction of legal residence.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; set; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and may walk extensively.

The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee occasionally works in wetlands, ponds, and construction sites which have the potential exposure to fumes, vapors, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is technician level work with inspection and investigative responsibility. The employee conducts and assists in systematic inspections for illicit discharges to stormwater system and local waterways, illicit dumping and improper storage of debris/materials, and bulk trash/littering of site grounds. The employee will be required to perform minor landscaping and remedial corrections at facility locations, and assist in the coordination of trash collection assignments as required by the Office of Facilities Services. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Project Manager.

Position is normally day work hours. Due to the nature and scope of this position, the employee will be required to commit to an irregular work schedule, which will include altering day hours as necessary and working weekends, evenings, and holidays. This position will be required to take after-hours emergency calls and will require extensive in-district travel.

DIMENSIONS:

Grade 7; 7.5 hours/day

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

Include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in Providing A World-Class Education.
  • Conducts surveys and inspections as required by preventive maintenance orders.
  • Conducts inlet surveys as required by preventive maintenance work requests.
  • Assists in conducting construction site inspections for stormwater and erosion compliance.
  • Conducts minor maintenance at stormwater facilities such as lawn mowing, weed eating, posting signs, replacement of stormwater markers, unclogging structures, and water conveyance systems.
  • Assists and/or conducts minor maintenance activities involving plumbing and building related issues, as needed.
  • Writes detailed action taken reports as a follow-up to associated inspections.
  • Assists environmental project managers in completion of environmental work, requests, or projects.
  • Assists and/or conducts procedures in confined space entry requirements.
  • Assists and/or attends meetings representing environmental services.
  • Attends classes to continuously improve knowledge and skill set in various environmental disciplines.
  • Attends work daily in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Performs tasks in a regular, reliable, and predictable manner.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.


SALARY: Hiring Range: $37,300 - $51,080/year ($19.89 - $27.24/hour)

DAYS: 250

FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full Time
