NATURE OF POSITION:
Conducts speech/hearing screenings and evaluations and implements appropriate speech and language services for Pre-K through grade 12.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Functional knowledge of the Virginia Regulations Governing Special Education programs for students with disabilities.

Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice,and language impairments.

Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.

Provides therapeutic individualized programs to meet students' needs relative to existing speech and language handicaps.

Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.

Maintains lists of referred, screened and eligible students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to motivate, inspire and help children develop effectively.

Ability to use augmentative communication and assistive technology devices.

Ability to develop effective relationships with students' parents and school personnel.

Ability to develop IEP goals and objectives and align with SOL's.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold or be eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia-Department of Health Professions-Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

START DATE:
SALARY / STIPEND: Consistent with the DPS Testing and Therapeutic Services Personnel Salary Schedule depending on experience and advanced degrees. In addition, Danville Public Schools pays the employee cost in full for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for Health insurance. Other benefits include sick leave and personal leave.
