Garfield School District Re-2 is seeking a full time, Early Childhood Group Leader Qualified Paraprofessional for The Sunshine Bus Mobile Preschool for the remainder of the 2018/2019 school year! Garfield School District Re-2 proudly supports a four day student week! The preschool on Wheels Program is a signature project of the Aspen Community Foundation's Cradle to Career Initiative in partnership with Garfield Re- School District.

Gus the Bus and The Sunshine Bus travel to Rifle, Silt and New Castle neighborhoods. Gus the Bus opened its doors on September 5, 2012 and serves Rifle. In September of 2013 Gus added a sister, the Sunshine Bus who travels in Silt and New Castle.

The school buses have been retrofitted into state-of-the-art preschool classrooms that are equipped with six learning centers, a classroom gathering space, heat, air-conditioning and a children's potty and sink. Gus and Sunshine were the first mobile programs to be licensed by the State of Colorado Early Childhood Eligibility requirements include: Child must be potty trained and age three by October 1st.

The program uses the Creative Curriculum supports children's development in cognitive, language, literacy, social-emotional, math, science, technology, dramatic play, physical and motor skills, appreciation for arts and music and diversity awareness. It supports the developmental skills necessary to be successful in kindergarten and become life-long learners. Every month parents have access to community experts in health and nutrition, parenting tips and tools and literacy in the form of parent education meetings.

Programs like Gus the Bus and The Sunshine Bus are important because research shows that quality pre-school programs are the most effective intervention to improve the educational and life outcomes of children. Two out of three children in this region do not have access to licensed pre-school programs, the Preschool on Wheels program is an innovative, collaborative solution to assuring children in Western Garfield County are ready for kindergarten and a lifetime of success.
