Special Education Teacher responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching assigned classes;
- Attending weekly collaboration meetings;
- Supervising classes as assigned;
- Monitoring student activity and behavior.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instructs special education students in a classroom setting
- Prepares lesson plans and instructional materials designed to meet needs of individual students
- Assess students' abilities according to their performance on criterion-referenced assessments, authentic assessments, and instructional objectives.
- Assists the classroom teacher to promote maximum student intellectual and physical development
- Assists the teacher during instructional time to facilitate student opportunity to learn
- Communicates frequently with learners regarding their academic and social learning
- Provides assistance for instructional services to guide and direct student academic and social development
- Assists in the monitoring of student progress
- Communicates with the classroom teacher relative to the academic, physical, and social developments of students
- Participate in all staff and department meetings as assigned
- Participate in professional development opportunities as assigned
- Supervises students upon their arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon
- Fulfills non-instructional duties as assigned by the Supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree
- NYS Teaching Certification in any area(s) as listed
- NYSED Fingerprint Clearance
- Evidence of strong communication, problem solving, and human relations skills
- Evidence of the ability to effectively work with students, parents, colleagues and administrators from a diverse community
- Master's degree in related content area(s) preferred
- Experience in classroom teaching preferred
- Technology Literacy in any areas as listed below a plus
