POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Assistant will support and assist the office of Communications & Public Engagement with its varied projects. This will include writing press releases and media advisories, implementing social media campaigns, assisting with district wide special events, generating media impressions reports and performing departmental administrative tasks. Must have mastery of interpersonal communications skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Prepares news releases, media advisories/speeches, and other communications.
  2. Plans and executes various events.
  3. Researches, writes and posts online content for blogs and social media.
  4. Drafts media advisories, news releases, speeches and talking points
  5. Develops and implements special projects to enhance media relations and community engagement.
  6. Monitors media impressions and generate weekly and monthly reports for print, broadcast and electronic mediaWrite blogs for TalkUp APS highlighting unique significant activities, initiatives, achievements happening within the district.
  7. Supports Communications officers and staff in the field and at off-site at events with photos and social media and staffing demands.
  8. Performs all other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills including experience preparing news releases, media advisories/speeches, and other communications.
  • Experience working in and understanding key social media channels.
  • Experience in preparing in-depth communications plans; experience in event planning and execution.
  • Ability to perform a variety of complex clerical and administrative work involving use of independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed.
  • Working knowledge of best practices for office organization and procedures.
  • Must have an ability to meet deadlines and possesses strong time-management skills.


Requirements: EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor?s degree in English, Public Relations, Communications or a closely related field preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Valid Georgia driver?s license is required
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • At least two years experiences in marketing, communications, media relations, public relations or related field preferred.


Compensation: SALARY: $18.00/Hourly
WORK DAYS: Hourly
