POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs, assigns and administers the skilled work of the manager at the supervisory level in the procurement, maintenance and warranty of automotive parts for a variety of school vehicles and equipment. The Warranty Parts Manager is responsible for daily activities and bench stock inventory at three shop stores located at garage facilities and all bus lot locations. Supervision over lower grade employees include, three automotive parts persons and six Automotive Shop Stores Clerks. Flexible regular working hours are based upon forty (40) hours per week. Hours are adjustable to meet the needs and requirements of the department.

Salary: $24.35 - $47.75 (External candidates will not be placed above step 6 $32.46)

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Plans and administers the automotive parts and warranty parts activities at all Central Garage locations;
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates lower grade employees as assigned;
  • Plans and administers the development of technical specifications for bid a required;
  • Conducts research for the procurement of automotive parts, equipment, tools and supplies;
  • Obtains quotes for commodities and Blanket Purchase Agreements as required;
  • Initiates requests for Purchase Orders and Requisitions;
  • Places orders, receives and checks shipments of automotive parts for compliance with delivery, purchase order standards and price;
  • Plans, administers and schedules periodic and annual inventories;
  • Administers and maintains computerized and perpetual records by posting receipts, dispersals and reorder points;
  • Keeps employees informed of all departmental related activities, procedures and policies;
  • Maintains a safe, clean, organized and productive work environment;
  • Plans, administers and arranges for training for all automotive parts employees; and
  • Performs related work as required.


  • Job Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the managing of automotive parts stores to include personnel requirements, inventory requirements, inventory control, occupational hazards and safety precautions for a large commercial fleet;
  • Must have the ability to give, understand and carry out complex and written instructions;
  • Ability to make mathematical computation, and tabulations;
  • Ability to plan, layout, manage and supervise the work of lower grade departmental positions;
  • Ability to work, coping with varying climate conditions; and
  • Must be in good physical condition.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    High School graduate supplemented by completion of a reorganized apprenticeship or attendance at a vocational or trade school preferred, with extensive experience as an automotive parts person, including some experience as an automotive mechanic or garage coordinator; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are strongly encouraged and preferred for consideration at this level; possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's license with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervises and trains parts and shop store employees.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
