The Office of Innovation and Incubation (I&I) currently oversees and supports more than 130 CPS authorized charter and contract schools/campuses that educate nearly 54,000 students. As a key member of the I&I team, the School Operations and Incubation Support Coordinator will coordinate the implementation of all operations-based support systems for new and existing district, charter and contract schools. This person will be responsible for supporting the establishment of both department-specific and district-wide policies, as well as systems and relationships that ensure students in charter and contract schools have access to a safe and program-ready schools. Such systems and processes include assisting with the development of a new school incubation program inclusive of charter, contract, option and district operated schools; timely parent and school issue resolution; and a critical response system for school crisis management.

In addition to supporting school operation processes and systems, the Coordinator will serve as a frontline departmental contact for all payroll, business and HR processes for the entire I&I department staff of 20 employees.

The School Operations and Incubation Support Coordinator will be responsible for :

    Responding to correspondence from charter and contract school leaders to ensure that their correspondence is addressed within 48 hours of receipt
    Responding to parental, stakeholder calls/issues ensuring that all calls are returned and that issues are resolved as quickly as possible
    Working cross functionally within CPS to bring resolution to issues
    Where necessary, assisting in departmental efforts to coordinate with operational departments to facilitate the opening of new schools on an annual basis (e.g., managing lease signing, memorandums of understanding, etc.)
    Coordinating the disbursement and monitoring of incubation, start-up and expansion funds that are disbursed to all qualifying schools
    Supporting facility readiness for all charter, option and contract schools.
    Ensuring that new schools are appropriately provisioned for CPS system access (IMPACT, ODA, etc.)
    Assist with the development of strategic critical response systems for charter and contract schools
    Support the execution of leases involving charters and contract schools operating in CPS-owned facilities.
    Developing and maintaining intra-departmental partnerships to build efficient support systems for school operations throughout the District, particularly with Facilities, Nutrition Services, ITS and Operations.
    Helping with activities related to the management of the office budget, including Oracle applications and Purchasing


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the School Operations and Incubation Support Coordinator must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

Type of Experience and Number of Years: Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in an urban school district or commensurate experience working in either the public or private sector, particularly on addressing operational issues.

Residency Requirement:

  • As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
