SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Serves as the school counselor for all students, at the campus/building, and provide campus/building coordination and support for all guidance and counseling functions for all grade levels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master's Degree required in school counseling
LICENSE: Must hold valid Indiana State Teacher's school guidance counselor license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in all professional development activities.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze information about students through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to counsel students about their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, as well as vocational and educational planning.
  • Refer students to appropriate services.
  • Counsel students with discipline problems.
  • Assist students in understanding and overcoming social and emotional problems through individual and group counseling.
  • Provide orientation programs for new students and their parents.
  • Collaborate with teachers to present proactive, prevention-based classroom guidance activities.
  • Organize and assist in the administration of group testing.
  • Interpret group test results to students and parents.
  • Demonstrate high expectations in meeting all staff obligations.
  • Assist with master schedule development.
  • Schedule students.
  • Work cooperatively with other personnel to improve instructional programs and the overall operation of the school.
  • Attend and participate in required in-service activities and assist in planning and conducting such activities.
  • Willingness to participate in after school in the learning center activities.
  • Communicate electronically with students, parents, and other staff members concerning student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Participate in all meetings called by supervisor(s), consistent with the current employer/employee agreement.
  • Perform other adjunct duties as assigned by supervisor.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
