BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education (GED) is desirable; five years of electronic experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of television, fire alarm, security, clock, public address, and communications systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities. Thorough knowledge of the operation of electronic, clock, fire alarm, and security systems. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, materials, and practices of the electronics trade. Ability to use computer for fire alarm/intercom diagnostics, communications, material ordering, work order processing. Considerable knowledge of electronics and electrical theory.Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints, schematics, and specifications. Ability to maintain adequate records of all work performed. Skill in the use of hand tools, testing equipment, and materials. Ability to comply with all safety rules and regulations relating to the field of electronics. Ability to troubleshoot and skill in the diagnosis and repair of problems relating to the operation of television, fire alarm, security, public address, and communications systems. Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and, if necessary, a commercial driver's license. Must possess a valid Virginia master's electrical certification or degree in electronics or valid Nicet level 3 certification.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:
This is highly skilled advanced work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electronics equipment and electrical systems within the Prince William County School System. This work is performed under the general supervision of the crew chief and shop foreman.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk or electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:
Include, but are not limited to the following: Performs highly skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of fire alarms, security and clock systems. Responds to emergency duty assignments when required by supervisor. Instructs lower skill level subordinates in troubleshooting, explaining necessary repairs; also in the proper use and operation of tools, materials, and techniques. Installs, repairs, and maintains intercoms, public address systems, MATV, fire alarm, security and other related electronic systems. Develops guidelines and performs preventive maintenance on electronic equipment as required. Develops and conveys drawings modifications for construction or equipment changes to be incorporated into "as-built" drawings by the maintenance drafting shop. Responds to emergency duty assignments when required by supervisor. Attends classes to continuously improve knowledge. Provides designs and calculations in accordance with the NEC and NFPA standards and accepted engineering practices. Performs other duties as assigned.
SALARY:
Hiring Range: $44,517 - $60,965/year ($23.74 - $32.51/hour)
