Position Summary:
Provides instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing that supports learning and results in decreased behavior and increased student achievement
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops or selects and modifies lessons and materials to meet individual student needsUtilizes special methodology for instruction to support student progress using GPS standardsDevelops, implements, monitors, and reviews the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student on the caseloadAddresses the unique needs students in caseload, i.e., fluent use of ASL sign languageAdministers evaluations of student progress on an on-going basis and maintains appropriate recordsFollows due process procedures for all referred and eligible students with disabilitiesMeets expectations according to the general education teacher job descriptionWorks with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student's educational programFacilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communicationsUses technology to support and modify instructionServes as a resource to general education faculty, administrators, and related services personnelPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Education and Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required
Experience:
- 0-1 year classroom experience required
Certification:
- Must hold a valid Georgia Teacher Certification in the area of Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven communication and instructional strategiesClassroom management skillsKnowledge of IDEA and due process requirementsKnowledge of basic first aid methods, techniques for positioning and moving physically challenged studentsExcellent communication skills both orally and in writingExcellent organizational skills
