      • 48 semester hours
      • AA Degree
    Preferred:
    • Knowledge of Teaching Strategies Gold assessment for Kindergarten
    Summary:
    Under the direction of a licensed teacher and/or administrator, this position is responsible for monitoring and/or reinforcing skills with small groups of students or one-on-one, maintaining and updating student records as directed by classroom teacher, collecting and entering students' academic and behavior progress into the state and district assessment systems. May also prepare instructional materials, monitor students in various classroom and non-classroom settings and/or assist in the administration of tests. Individuals in this position may be assigned to one or more classrooms. May assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills as needed.

    Duties:

    The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon building assignments and other factors. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
    • Facilitates and/or monitors small group and one-on-one instruction of students in order to guide and/or reinforce skills, concepts and strategies introduced by the classroom teacher. This will include supporting students during work time on a daily basis. The kindergarten student support staff member will employ a variety of instructional and motivational techniques to encourage student learning and achievement
    • Maintain and update records of student progress, attendance, assessment scores per direction from classroom teacher. Input state and district required assessment data and information into the computer system, including students' academic and behavioral progress
    • Monitors students' academic and behavioral progress and record appropriately
    • May prepare instructional materials for use in class or "pull-out" small groups
    • Attends and fully participates in all required ECE Department and district professional development sessions including CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, etc.
    • May promote parent involvement through participation and support of school planned activities and events
    • May monitor students in various non-classroom settings a requested
    • May assist in the administration of tests as designated by classroom teacher
    • May prepare instructional artwork and resources including displays, bulletin boards, charts and posters
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Essential Functions:

    Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other:
    Good oral and written English communication, organizational, interpersonal, basic math skills. Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate developmental activities. Ability to work with children of all abilities. Oral and written fluency in second language may be preferred or required based on building assignment.

    Certificates, Licensing & Registration:
    Current training certificates in CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions are required within 3 months of hire.

    Guidance/Technical Responsibility:
    District kindergarten student support staff must demonstrate understanding of position responsibilities and model appropriate team-work skills. All kindergarten matters are communicated to the Elementary Principal and when necessary, the Principal may request additional support from the Early Childhood Department. District kindergarten student support staff must be dependable, punctual, and maintain appropriate dress and appearance for work setting.

    Safety to Self and others:
    Medium exposure of self to bruises and cuts due to classroom accidents, playground accidents or upset children; to disease due to caring for sick or injured students; and to repetitive motion injuries due to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or sitting/rising from the floor.

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

    Mental Functions:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and use interpersonal skills.
