JOB INFORMATION:
  • HOURS PER DAY: 6.33
  • SCHOOL YEAR POSITION (193 DAYS / 10 MONTHS)
  • SPLIT HOURS: 6:30 to 8:50 a.m. and 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with one additional hour of preparation time
  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Plan, develop, supervise, and lead the Express program at various assigned program locations. May be assigned to activity leader duties as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for school-age children before and after school.
  2. Maintain regular contact with the Express supervisor and building principal to exchange information on student, parent, and facility needs.
  3. Ensure the site and its operation meets licensing standards developed by the state of Washington for child care facilities.
  4. Assure proper care and maintenance of the facilities being used in the Express program.
  5. Maintain child and program records and submit reports as prescribed.
  6. Attend appropriate staff meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  7. Coordinate and direct the work of activity leaders.
  8. Maintain and track site allocated supply budget, purchase authorized supplies and maintain proper purchase records.
  9. Perform activity leader duties as assigned.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  2. Completed 30 or more college quarter credits in elementary education, special education, school-age care or recreation.
  3. Must be 21 years of age.
  4. Minimum of two years management experience in a related field.
  5. Experience working with school-age children.
  6. Twenty hours of STARS training or possess an education exemption. Maintain training account in MERIT (Managed Education and Registry Information Tool).
  7. Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated organizational and program management skills.
  9. Demonstrated proficiency in basic communication skills.
  10. Ability to direct the work of activity leaders and volunteers.
  11. Must have access to reliable transportation to attend staff meetings and purchase authorized supplies.
  12. TB test, CPR certificate, first aid card, and food handler's permit required upon hiring.
  13. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
  14. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  15. Physical ability to walk with students on field trips, or chase after students, when necessary, in order to maintain safety of students. Ability to lift 30 pounds, if necessary.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  1. Work Schedule-Days and hours are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Benefits-Fringe benefits are provided for employees who work at least half-time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position. Stipends are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.
  3. Association Membership-Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement between Spokane Public Schools and the Union, a newly-elected employee must either become a member of the association, pay an equivalent representation fee, or based on bona fide religious objections, pay an equivalent amount to a nonreligious charity mutually agreed upon by the employee and the association.
  4. A fingerprint background check is required for all prospective employees prior to start date. A processing fee is payable by payroll dedcution.
