Job Summary
Provides specific school health services in a health room for pupils on a limited hour per day basis. Assists professional health personnel in performing various screening testes and administering first aid. Performs under the supervision of a nursing superior.

Essential Functions
  • Assists professional health personnel in performing physical assessments; assures that examination rooms are orderly; prepares pupils for assessments; measures height, weight; temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; administers vision and hearing screenings; assists with other screening tests.
  • Provides minor first aid to ill or injured individuals; carries out procedures for dismissal of ill or injured child to parent or guardian.
  • Records standardized information on cumulative health records; maintains tickler files and program control sheets; prepares necessary reports.
  • Performs a variety of related tasks necessary for health room activities such as, but not limited to: answering the phone, relaying messages, sending, collecting and filing permission forms, making appointments, storing supplies, maintaining files of health education materials, duplicating and collating material, arranging bulletin boards and displays, and filing.
Asthma Project Specialty
  • Works closely with the school nurse to identify children with asthma who are enrolled in WEPACC program.
  • Assists in organizing open airway classes.
  • Visits classrooms of children in asthma navigator program to conduct an environmental screen of potential triggers.
  • Provide storage bins and electronic dusters as appropriate aids to reduce asthma triggers in classrooms.
  • Contacts facility manager for pest and moisture issues in classroom for children enrolled in WEPACC program.
  • Assists the school nurse with obtaining and appropriate consent forms for school-based asthma therapy.
  • Communicates with caregiver regarding appropriate forms needed to manage their child's asthma with the goal of 80% of children identified in program having an asthma care plan, med 1 forms and appropriate medication or devices to manage asthma in the school setting.
  • Assists caregiver with obtaining forms and providing assistance with the asthma navigator to facilitate communication with primary care provider.
  • Attends 100% of monthly conference calls to troubleshoot issues.
  • Collects appropriate data.
  • Assures data integrity.
  • Adhere to protocol for asthma navigator program.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates/Licenses

Additional Job Information: This is a PFT represented position. Selected candidates who meet the qualifications of the position will be invited to take the required examinations. Additional factors including the ability to follow directions, punctuality and professional conduct will be considered in part of the evaluation process. The exam process will contain two parts. The first will be a written exam. Any candidates who meet the qualifying score for the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral exam, from which 100% of the score will be tabulated. Only candidates who have received a passing score on part one of the examination will be invited for part two. The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence).
