NATURE OF POSITION:
Manages the day-to-day operations of School Security Officers (SSOs) as part of the Division's team of School Security Officers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in the determination and scheduling of School Security Officer (SSO) assignments
  • Evaluates School Security Officers assigned to the building
  • Completes all documentation for state and local reports
  • Advises administration on safety and security situations
  • As assigned, works to complete safety audits and crisis plans
  • Assists in the arrangement of training for new and established School Security Officers, and keeps accurate records of mandated certification and local training
  • Keeps incident files and issues reports
  • Operates and/or directs the camera surveillance and radio systems
  • Follows the leadership of the Principal in creating a safe and secure school environment
  • Works with School Resource Officers (SROs) to ensure a safe and secure school environment
  • Attends school events as requested by the Principal
  • Responds to crisis incidents as required
  • Conducts surveillance of school buildings and grounds
  • Escorts disruptive students to locations specified by school administrator and helps control physical confrontations
  • Attends meetings, gives statements, provides reports, testifies in court as necessary
  • Investigates unusual conditions or disturbances
  • Attends professional development activities; enlarges knowledge and understanding of security programs and strategies; serves as a trainer, especially in the implementation of programs using a “train-the-trainer” model
  • Represents the School Security Officers on school committees dealing with a broad range of safety, security, and behavior issues
  • Pursues training for School Security Officer Instructor Certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions. Ability to recognize and identify activities which have or may become a problem or an emergency requiring immediate attention. Ability to think and act quickly, effectively, and responsibly under emergency situations. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with all community stakeholders. Must be able to pass the Department of Criminal Justice Service mandated training. Must be able to pass all local requirements for School Security Officers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma required with a combination of work experiences in a field of safety, security, or law enforcement. Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.

START DATE: On or about November 5, 2018
SALARY / STIPEND: $12.83 - $24.79 per hour, depending on experience and advanced degrees. Danville School Board pays the employee cost in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance. Other benefits - sick leave and personal leave.
