POSITION:

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a K-12 certification area (Pupil Personnel Services areas: School Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, preferred), a permanent New York State teaching certificate and a school administrator certificate (SDA) or New York State School District Leader (SDL). It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years combined K-12 teaching and supervisory experience, with a minimum of two (2) years at the Supervisory level. Candidates with prior experience in an urban school district with a large racially and ethnically diverse population are encouraged to apply. Candidates teaching experience must have been in a K-12 environment.

DUTIES:
The Buffalo Public Schools (BPS) New Education Bargain with Student and Parents focuses on providing students and parents with a pathway to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. Services for our Neediest Children and Families serves as one of the focus areas of the district in executing its commitment to students and parents. Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services, the Director will be responsible for working with school staff and community partners to create safe, healthy, and welcoming school environments that foster children's' social emotional, and wellness development. The Director will also be responsible, but not limited to, the following duties:
  • Assisting in the development, coordination and administration of Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child related projects.
  • Works with District staff and community partners to design and implement staff development, parent capacity building and student empowerment programs.
  • Promotes the use of scientifically-based practices and model programs throughout the District to create safe and supportive schools and healthy children.
  • Establishes collaborative partnerships with District and non-District stakeholders toward the goal of student success.
  • Chairs or serves on District-wide committees and broad-based task forces pertaining behavioral and health services.
  • Formulates policy and directs the revision of policy to implement new legislation and Board of Education policies and resolutions; reviews, proposes, or drafts legislation pertaining to student support services.
  • Reviews District-wide data and provides feedback to operations and instructional staff regarding effective strategies to promote school culture and climate.
  • Analyzes suspension data and provides feedback to Principals, Student support Coaches, and other staff regarding suspension reduction and teacher response strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
