About This Position

The Health Education Curriculum Writer is responsible for analyzing, designing, writing, developing and implementing a rigorous, comprehensive, standards-based K-12 Health education curriculum, aligning assessments and professional development that will provide all of our students an education leading to a healthy and active lifestyle. The Syracuse City School District is seeking candidates that are highly collaborative, motivated, creative, self-directed, and possess excellent writing skills. The Health Education Curriculum Writer will be able to:

  • Design, author, edit and pilot a K-12 Health Education scope and sequence, curriculum, and assessments in collaboration with other health education teachers.
  • Design, author, edit and develop effective instructional materials; create interactive and engaging course content and build effective learning experiences.
  • Draw from a diverse educational experience of design and learning techniques to define and sequence instructional content and strategies to optimize learning experiences.
  • Provide outreach, guidance and support to schools in implementing Health Education curriculum and assessment.
  • Research and document policies of best practices and guidance.
  • Create and maintain performance support materials, including but not limited to online knowledge bases, quick reference guides, and other digital based learning resources.
  • Provide professional development to support implementation of updated curriculum.
  • Uses a variety of techniques for determining instructional content of curriculum or program; create or partner with others to plan and design the curriculum or school based program.

Qualifications

  • All candidates must be current SCSD Unit 1 Teachers.
  • Minimum of three years' successful classroom teaching experience (preferred)
  • All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in Health Education.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NYS Health Education Standards and National Health Education Standards
  • Advanced ability to write with attention to narrative and copy.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred)
  • Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)


Compensation:

Up to 30 additional hours
