IDEA Public Schools :

At IDEA Public Schools, we believe in college for all and we are committed to ensuring that every student graduates from a four-year college.

IDEA was founded in 2000 as a single school with 150 students in the Rio Grande Valley. When student interest exceeded the building capacity, IDEA co-founders, Tom Torkelson and JoAnn Gama, responded to the growing demand from families and launched what is now IDEA Public Schools. Under their leadership, we serve tens of thousands of students across Texas and Louisiana. By 2022, IDEA will be on track to serve 100,000 students in communities across the country with Greater Houston launching in 2020.

When you choose to work at IDEA, you aren't just an employee. You are a part of a team and family. You will work alongside colleagues who set and reach ambitious goals every day, are excited to continue to grow with IDEA, and work relentlessly to make college for all a reality.

About our region:

IDEA's expansion to the Greater Houston region was announced in December 2017 and we are preparing for an expeditious launch plan. Houston is considered the most diverse city in America, yet children of color and children living in poverty continue to lack access to the highest quality schools. As the fourth largest city, with more than fifty independent public school districts and home to a strong public charter school sector, Houston is a complex city with plenty of option for educators to seek opportunities. However, far too many students continue not to be able to access the city's best schools and sit on waitlists year after year.

Houston is a city where connections matter, but work ethic is the currency of influence. The city's reputation is based on economic opportunity and affordable living with a massive sprawl that exceeds the size of New Hampshire and the need for more great schools is ever present. IDEA - Greater Houston will be a part of solving the problem to offer more children a choice-filled life through a transformational public education.

Fully cognizant of the need across Greater Houston, IDEA Public Schools launched with a commitment to open our first four schools in 2020 and will follow with an ambitious growth plan to grow to twenty schools by 2025-26.

In the past year in we have:

• Secured a $10M gift from Laura and John Arnold

• Hired our first three Principals in Residence who have relocated to McAllen, Texas to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them to launch and lead our first campuses

• Completed an internal analysis of demographic trends and the location of school quality deserts to identify areas of the greatest need for future campus locations

Role Mission: The Regional Director of Operations (RDO) will serve as the operations mastermind for the Greater Houston region. This is a big job and the first significant team hire to support the day to day school operations.

1. S/he is a skilled manager and team leader with exemplary customer service skills. Our RDO will support the hiring and development of our Assistant Principals of Operations, alongside the region's Executive Director and Principals in Residence. The RDO will lead the launch and growth of a founding team who will be responsible for all back of the house operations to ensure our schools run smoothly and efficiently.

2. S/he is driven by goals and uses data in making decisions, providing in-depth monitoring of regional performance metrics and producing compelling reports to motivate and inspire others to take action and share investment in achieving operating outcomes. S/he has strong analytical skills and can quickly analyze large amounts of data and identify patterns, problems, opportunities.

3. S/he has a keen attention to detail and can also see the big picture. Our RDO will focus on building management capacity and ensure that all of our Houston operational goals are achieved, with a particular emphasis on ADA, Recruitment, Enrollment, Beginning of Year (BOY) planning, Staff Retention, Financial Stewardship and Land Acquisition. The RDO will serve as the liaison between the region and HQ.
