  • QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; Word processing techniques and computer software applications; School/District attendance and tardy policies and definitions; attendance record keeping methods and techniques; principles and practices of first aid; knowledge of specialized procedures, methods and policies as designated.

    Must possess the skill to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn and apply District rules, regulations and policies; effectively maintain record keeping systems and files in a timely manner; prepare reports and correspondence; type accurately at a rate of 40 net wpm; operate standard office equipment including; perform accurate mathematical calculations using basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

    Must possess the ability to counsel students as to reasons for truancy, compulsory attendance laws, and the Kern High School District Truancy Reduction Program; record and clear student absences and truancies on school forms and contracts, and on the Attendance System; report patterns of attendance problems to counselors and administrators; check with parents to verify absences; remind students to bring written excuses for absences and follow up to insure that written excuses are received and absences are cleared; meet regularly with school truancy team to identify and correct problems in the Truancy Reduction Program; make home visits to counsel student/parents where truancy is an issue (with counselor, probation officer, police officer and/or Dean); assist with various clerical duties within the school office when necessary and as time permits; obtain a valid First-Aid Certificate within the first 5 months of employment and CPR card; receive and screen ill or injured students or staff; refer treatment to nurse, doctor, parent and others as required via established District policies and procedures; maintain and update immunization records on every student at assigned site; assist nurse in school health programs and tests such as hearing, vision, and immunizations; attend in-service sessions arranged by District office; administer medication and injections in strict compliance with doctor's orders and District policies; perform related duties as required.

    A RECENT TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.

    EXPERIENCE: Two years of increasingly responsible clerical work, of which at least one year should involve school district experience or one year as an Attendance Clerk with the KHSD. Some health related experience preferred.

    A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

    DUTIES OF POSITION: To reduce truancy at the school site using reports generated from the Attendance System; contact and counsel students and parents in attendance related matters; communicate with counselors, teachers and administrators involved in the Kern High School District Truancy Reduction Program. Employees in this job classification receive general supervision from a school administrator or his/her designee within a framework of standard policies and procedures; perform a wide variety of responsible and specialized clerical/technical support services to staff members. To prepare, maintain, and update student health/immunization records and files; to administer first aid and perform other routine non-technical activities in the assistance of ill and injured students. Must be able to choose among a limited number of alternatives in solving routine problems; will have various responsibilities in several areas. Successful candidate may oversee and supervise students assisting in truancy reduction; this position exercises responsibility for the accurate compiling and recording of information and data in the Truancy Reduction Program.

    STARTING SALARY: $2,232.49 (monthly)

    NUMBER OF MONTHS: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)

    NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours to be 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Truancy Reduction Clerk 4 hrs. – School Health Assist. 4 hrs.)
