About UP Education Network
UP Education Network operates six schools in Boston, Lawrence, and Springfield, MA. We serve over 3,000 elementary and middle school students. UP is invited by local school districts to restart chronically underperforming district schools as UP Academies. Each UP Academy shares the same mission: to ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential.
Role
The Dean of Students reports to UP Academy's Principal and serves on UP Academy's Leadership Team. The Dean of Students will lead the school's efforts to create a positive, structured, consistent, caring, and disciplined school culture.
Specific Responsibilities
Establish and ensure a joyful, structured, achievement-oriented school culture
Support and coach teachers to hold all students to consistently high behavioral expectations
With the Director of Operations, build systems and procedures which protect the sanctity of instructional time and reinforce a positive school culture
Serve as the point person for discipline/culture issues
Assist teachers, students, and families in the effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plans
Lead staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time and prepared to learn
Reinforce the effective use of a school-wide behavior plan, including managing the school's PRIDE system
Ensure that the physical environment of the school reinforces school culture and facilitates student achievement
Oversee the development and implementation of student supports and interventions
Serve on the UP Academy Leadership Team
Qualifications
A strong belief in UP Education Network's core values: Students, Community, Humility, Resilience, and Humor
Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree is preferred
Three years teaching experience required, 2+ years of school leadership experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated success in leading in a diverse environment
Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.

UP Academy follows the salary scales and salary placement policies of each UP Academy's host school district or state turnaround plan; please see the relevant union's collective bargaining agreement for additional details.
