Job Description:

The Horace Mann Learning Lab after school program is looking for staff that is experienced in working with elementary school aged children. Candidates will support Lead Teachers in service learning projects and teach enrichments.

Group Leaders earn $15/hour from 1:30-4:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as well as additional training/prep time as designated by supervisor. Program runs from October 15 th -June 15 th and follows the Salem Public School schedule.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and implementing structured activities for school age children
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Previous experience working with school aged children from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic is preferred


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all students within the program.
  • Provide support to teachers in a classroom setting.
  • Develop, organize and implement high quality enrichment programming.
  • Use positive reinforcement and redirection for behavior guidance.
  • Supervise children to ensure safety and age-appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly
  • Provide activities that foster creativity and awareness of various cultural, educational, recreational, environmental and social issues
  • Maintain accurate attendance records daily. Stays alert to children's needs
  • Attend all staff meetings; training sessions and program special events
  • Report all accidents and unusual incidents immediately and assists with necessary documentation.
  • Abide by the established SPS School District policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor (remain flexible and open)
