Job Title: Science and Technology Program Director
Reports to: Headmaster
Terms: BASAS, Group 9A, 209 days

General Description:
With guidance from the Headmaster and Administrative Team, the Science and Technology Program Director will lead all science and technology programming at the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science. The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge base and experience with using the Essentials for Instructional Equity, the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice: Teacher Rubric, the Quality School Plan, the Data Wise Improvement Process, and researched-based coaching models to support teacher practice. The Science and Technology Program Director will work closely with the administrative team to conduct school-wide Learning Walks and Instructional Focus Reviews. The Science and Technology Program Director will also serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team. In addition, the Science and Technology Program Director will actively interact and engage with, teachers, staff, and families to ensure a safe and welcoming learning community is established.
The Science and Technology Program Director will also be responsible for developing Science and Technology partnerships, leadership initiatives for the Computer Science and Engineering (CTE) Pathway programs and writing grants for academic programming and resources. This includes but is not limited to developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing, and implementing Science and Technology programs.

Reports to : Headmaster

Responsibilities :
  1. Provide direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive Science and Technology curriculum for grades 7- 12.
  2. Oversee the development and enhancement of the Science and Technology curriculum for instructional programs and collaborate with teachers and administration in the development and maintenance of the Science and Technology curriculum, including partnerships and grants.
  3. Work with staff members, both in the classroom and in professional development opportunities, to support differentiated instruction and tiered interventions.
  4. Monitor school data to determine trends and in turn develop and implement the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding state and national student achievement goals.
  5. Model, co-teach, and observe classes.
  6. Provide feedback to support teachers in their efforts to provide accommodations, lesson modifications, and supports to a range of learners.
  7. Support the creation and implementation of portfolios.
  8. Assume a lead role in the professional development activities of special education, regular education teachers, and SEI teacher to improve instruction for all.
  9. Lead a process for the evaluation, selection, and acquisition of instructional materials, supplies, equipment and textbooks to support the Science and Technology curriculum.
  10. Work with families to increase their engagement in their child's school experience.
  11. Maintain responsive lines of communication among students, parents, and staff.
  12. Support improved attendance and timeliness, homework completion, classroom on-task behavior, etc.
  13. Act as the Science and Technology representative at disciplinary meetings.
  14. Identify, evaluate, and encourage students to undertake rigorous and challenging course work.
  15. Develop, foster, and maintain integration of learning across all instructional areas, career guidance, and special services to ensure students efficiently acquire relevant 21 st century skills.
  16. Assist in administrations of all required assessments.
  17. Assist in implementation of school based rules and BPS Code of Conduct.
  18. Supervise and direct the work of teachers and support staff assigned to the department, including evaluation of their performance.
  19. Perform other responsibilities as designated by the Headmaster.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Master's Degree in Science/Technology Education required
  2. Massachusetts Supervisor/Director license
  3. Five (5) years teaching and managerial experience
  4. Massachusetts teacher license in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Technology/Engineering and SEI Endorsement
  5. Experience and training in the supervision and evaluation of teachers/as a professional developer
  6. Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents
  7. Ability to establish a diverse multicultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image
  8. Experience with and/or knowledge of educational reform
  9. Experience with and knowledge of advising programs
  10. Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks, Vocational Frameworks, and Assessments


Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in working in fast-paced environment and ability to manage multiple responsibilities with humor and enthusiasm
