Leads Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) student wellness programs. Serves as CCPS wellness expert who oversees student wellness initiatives. Develops, implements, and evaluates student wellness programs, activities, and services.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Serves as the principal contact for the coordination of wellness activities for students. Actively assesses the health and wellness needs of all students, including underrepresented populations.
  • Leads and coordinates the integration of health promotion practices into the school setting.
  • Coordinates health and wellness policies, processes, and practices to improve student learning and health.
  • Oversees regulatory compliance and documentation for the wellness policy, including oversight of school assessments and triennial reports under the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010.
  • Communicate with school administrators, central office staff and community partners to enhance program awareness and to assist with program implementation.
  • Collaborate with appropriate central office and school staff to incorporate school-based wellness plans into the school's improvement plans.
  • Provides resources to schools to support schools in promoting wellness for students and families.
  • Partner with CCPS grant writers to promote community and business partnerships in seeking grants and sustained support for the wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Specialist of Health and Physical Education to create a program for student goal setting through student portfolios that track physical activity, nutrition, and fitness testing scores.
  • Develop plan and coordinate CCPS student Wellness Integration model expansion across division including the coordination and support of school-based wellness integrators.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to schools in the creation of wellness councils.
  • Develop summer wellness enrichment opportunities for students and their families.
  • Provide guidance to elementary schools on encouraging and increasing physical activity during recess.
  • Collaborate with Chesterfield Health Department on wellness initiatives including exploration of a Body Mass Index surveillance program.
  • Partner with School Nutrition Services to explore best practices to increase student's consumption of healthy food and beverages.
  • Develop tools and infrastructure to encourage and increase physical activity before and after school times.
  • Provide tools and assistance to PTAs to increase healthy fundraisers, special events, and school parties.
  • Partner with School Counselors, PBIS Team, and other specialists to support mental health and wellness initiatives.
  • Provide staff support to School Health Advisory Board (SHAB).
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of school-based health and wellness. Considerable knowledge of needs analysis and research evaluation techniques. Demonstrated ability in leading and promoting school health promotion programs. Demonstrated ability to design and present workshops and training to teachers and parents. Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, work independently, plan and organize work, work with various community members and school staff and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Experience working in diverse school environments and communities. Working skill in the use of technology to support job functions; such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and of web-based resources for professional development and communication such as Edmodo and GoogleDocs. Demonstrated knowledge of public health and education system.
Requirements: Master's degree in public health nutrition or a related field with active registration or certification to practice as a dietitian or nutritionist. A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in which developing and integrating wellness plans and providing training to employees and/or community members were integral components. Prior experience in a public school environment strongly preferred.
