The K-12 ELL Teacher is a highly qualified, State certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an on-line environment. The ELL Teacher will serve as a case manager and instructor for all ELL Students accepting services. Teachers provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs. Teachers monitor ELL student progress through K12's learning management system, and they work actively with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
AS A K-12 ELL Teacher, YOU WILL..
  • Learn the entire K12 curriculum for assigned grade levels and demonstrate knowledge of how State standards align with it
  • Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support
  • Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools
  • Orient students to their course, communicate requirements, set and enforce deadlines, maintain regular office hours and conduct instructional sessions
  • Take ownership for student's academic progress and attendance communicating high expectations and showing active interest in student's achievement
  • Collaborate with grade-level team regarding instruction, resources, interventions and data-driven decision making
  • Provide individualized instruction to help each student master K12 curricular objectives
  • Write Individualized Language Learner Plans (ILLPs,) which are a State requirement for all ELL students to ensure compliance with the required 4 hours per day of instruction. These plans are based on all available assessment data and upcoming instruction. The ELL teacher will also be responsible for all quarterly progress reports and modifications.
  • Hold all ILLP meetings with parents (this would no longer be required of the English teacher). Obtain translation services as needed for parents for the meetings through the ELL Coordinator
  • Provide goals based on the ELP standards to all teachers (including English) and make instructional method recommendations
  • Determine ELL SLOs for Grammar and Writing for each instructional cycle and progress monitor those goals
  • Provide additional one on one tutoring sessions with students to address areas identified by classroom teacher as needing extra support
  • Assist with the administration of assessments to ELL students including DIBELS, AZELLA, and other progress monitoring assessments
  • Assist with providing professional development for teachers regarding best practices/instructional methods
  • For students whose parents have withdrawn their student from services: Consult with the classroom teachers to provide instructional recommendations to teachers and learning coaches based on the assessment data of the student to ensure they are reclassified
  • Prepares students for high stakes standardized tests
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches/parents to keep them adequately apprised of the student's progress and issues
  • Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, balancing the flexibility of the K12 curriculum with proper enforcement of Academy policies and procedures
  • Organizes social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities
  • Grade submitted, required student work and maintains grade book
  • Make placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regarding student progress, alerting administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Create and manage a home office
  • Support students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting
  • Utilize data analysis and data driven instruction
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and families to create and maintain an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP)
  • Proctor site-based exams;
  • Collect and analyze formative and summative assessments
  • Teach scheduled Class Connect sessions for specific subject areas and homeroom
  • Collaborate with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students
  • Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletters and events
  • Travel to and participate in staff meetings, school outings, marketing events, State testing, professional development sessions, and other experiences
  • Maintain records regarding students in accordance with school policy and State requirements; prepare reports regarding students and classroom matters as directed
  • Help staff any enrollment or retention efforts as directed
  • Provide direct instruction to students as needed
  • Participate in committees as required
  • Adapt to change, be open to new ideas, take on new responsibilities, handle pressure, and adjust plans to meet changing needs
  • Deal with others in a straightforward and honest manner, be accountable for actions, maintain confidentiality, supports K12 Inc. company and school values, communicate with families, colleagues, and others in a professional manner, and convey good news and bad

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
Requirements
Minimum required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Three (3) years of experience teaching the appropriate age group AND
  • Meets requirements of Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status under No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

Certificates and Licenses: Arizona certification: ESL or SEI endorsement

  • Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, promptness, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with students
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Microsoft Office, Power Point and Outlook, as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum; obtains additional training in technology as required
  • Able to read data and determine what steps are needed to assist students academically on an individual and/or classroom basis
  • Able to adapt learning plans to meet different needs and learning styles; create an instructional and whole class environment favorable to learning and personal growth
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Customer service orientation to include promptness and appropriateness of responses to needs and requests of students and learning coaches
  • Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent regulations
  • Obtains additional licensing as required
  • Ability to travel within and between assigned geographic areas to support students
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations
  • Ability to pass required background check

  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Ability to learn new technologies and tools
  • Special education, gifted, ELL, or subject-specific endorsement
  • Proficient in principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction for a diverse student population, such as English Language Learners (ELL), special needs, at-risk, and/or gifted students
  • Experience teaching in both online and in a brick-and-mortar environments
  • Experience working in a home environment full time
