NATURE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Student Assistance Coordinator is responsible for working with the school administration, teachers, parents, and students to improve student attendance and to provide additional support for eligible Title I students in the identification and monitoring of effective responses to intervention.

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Regular coordination with school administrators is necessary. Daily liaison activity throughout the division is necessary. Contact with media personnel may be required. Attendance of school division activities is necessary. Regular contact is made with teachers, parents, students, and other community members. These contacts may be contentious. Occasional contact with School Board members, state administrators, and representatives of federal agencies is necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
¨ Track attendance at each school for the purpose of monitoring all students missing more than 5 days (whether excused or not)

¨ Work with and monitor the work in this area of school attendance secretaries

¨ Plan attendance meetings for each school for students having 5+ days unexcused or excessive tardiness

¨ Provide additional support to identified at-risk students of Title I schools by coordinating home visits for students with attendance issues, including tardiness

¨ Collaborate with Director of Federal Title Programs and Instructional Support and with school-based teams to provide additional support and identify interventions for identified at-risk students of Title I schools

¨ Take students and their parents or guardians to Truancy Response Team meetings

¨ Participate in DPS court cases involving truancy, attendance, or Child In Need of Services (CHINS) cases, as requested by the Director of Student Intervention Services and/or Chief Academic Officer

¨ Monitor, by case management, each student with attendance and/or truancy issues

¨ Provide consistent feedback to home and school of students

¨ Participate actively in Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT) meetings

¨ Case-manage all students referred to FAPT for truancy

¨ Facilitate Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) trainings and updates for required staff

¨ Complete all necessary FAPT documentation

¨ Monitor all outside agencies that are administering service to FAPT students

¨ Participate with and provide case management to students referred to FAPT

¨ Serve as Local Homeless Education Liaison and, as such, provide information and training to administrators, secretaries, and appropriate guidance personnel related to enrollment procedures, documentation, immunizations and health related records, and other pertinent information defined in the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act; provide information to community partners including homeless shelters, food banks, welfare departments, faith-based organizations, and other community organizations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proven record as a successful administrator and/or teacher. Demonstrated knowledge of PreK-12 educational philosophy. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of groups. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, manage, monitor, and assess programs. Demonstrated ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited undergraduate program in education. Master's degree in school guidance and counseling, education administration, or related field is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in education (teaching or administration). Combination of education and experience may suffice for the above.

START DATE:
SALARY / STIPEND: Consistent with the 2018-2019 DPS Teacher Salary Scale, depending on experience and advanced degrees. In addition, the Danville School Board pays the employee cost in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and for health insurance. Other benefits include sick leave and personal leave.
